To set the scene, I'm in my first year of uni (I'm 20 years old). Freshers week, I pull a girl who lives in my halls, we mess around for much of the week and then go our separate ways.

A bit later, I start dating one of her friends, but it fizzles out after a month or so. That was about three months ago. Then she comes back to me a couple of weeks ago, and says she wants to get back together again. I say no, because she's a clingy psycho who is at once massively immature and annoyingly like a clucking old hen with ill informed opinions and generally ignorant attitude. She actually interrogates me for like five minutes about why I don't want to get back together with her ("I just don't understand" etc.) even though SHE broke up with ME, and to get her off my back I tell her I'm not interested in a relationship with anyone right now.

But here's the thing: I really fancy another girl, who happens to be best friends with the girl I pulled in freshers' week (who I get on fairly well with) and is LIVING with the other two next year.

I think the girl I fancy likes me: she has rubbed up against me in the pub, laughs at my jokes when they're obviously not funny and is really affectionate, etc., plus we often make eye contact. It's all quite intangible yet I trust my gut feeling. But would she be interested in doing anything given my baggage with her two girlfriends? I'm willing to play the long game with her because I really like her.

Opinions + advice if you have any please, and thanks for reading the post, which I know is quite long.

First mistake - lying to the clingy psycho bitch...you shoulda been straight with her that she broke with you and you like someone else now, tell her to get over it. Be with who you want to be with, fuck her feelings, did she think of yours when she broke with you? Your situation is not as complicated as you make it out to be.

Yeah I realised it was a mistake the moment I said it. I loathe her, but it looks bad to come out and say it. I'm going to have to think up a strategy, hunker down for a long stealth campaign. Or just get drunk with the girl when her friend's not around and see where it goes...
