Gay?
A co-worker of mine has to go meet with her son's principal today. Her son has been threatening to beat up a fellow classmate because the classmate is gay and has been 'looking at him'. The thing is, these kids are 12 years old.
Can one really be gay at this age? What on earth would make a kid declare himself gay when he's just starting to discover his sexuality? What are your thoughts?

Re: Gay?
It's like a new trend nowadays to be gay or bisexual. Even if you aren't.
Everyone today is just trying to be so different they're actually saying they're gay.
They want to be picked on just so they can say that they are one of those kids that gets made fun of just to fit in more with the emo scene. No joke.

Re: Gay?
I don't think one would develop gayness.
I'm not gay so I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's just something you're born with, And at 12, I'm assuming puberty? Which if one were to find him or herself attracted to the same gender, then there you have it.
Why not declare it? I'm guessing if he's brave enough to do so, then he really believes that he is gay.

Re: Gay?
Some people have already explored their sexuality by the age of 12.
I've known kids younger than 12 who claim to be gay. So far, with the kids that I've known, it's just for attention.

If anyone at 12 can say they are straight, then anyone at 12 can say that they are gay.
I've known that I've been interested in men my whole life, but it took until middle school to realize I was gay and then until high school to accept it.
I've known since I was 10 I was hetro. I found my dads magazines, and that was it. I had a girl friend at age 11, and had sex with her at age 13.
I have two sons now, one is 9 and the other is 5. I dred the conversation.....
"Dad, I have something to tell you"
"Oh shit, NO NO NO"
"Dad, I'm gay"
"Oh, wow, what a relief, I thought you wanted to be a rapper."
If they turn out to be gay I will still LOVE them. As long as they are happy, and getting laid, what do I care.
PS.. this was mend to be a little funny, but the fact is, I love my kids no matter what. Unless they want to be rappers/wiggers.

Re: Gay?
Thinking about it, it's practically impossible for a 12 year old to know they are truly gay as - even if puberty happened extremely early - sexuality requires quite a bit of time to show itself.
At 12, hormone levels are only initially beginning to rise and it takes years of building up these hormones to get the child to actively seek someone they desire for reasons other than pure attention seeking.
I'd reckon it would usually be then that something like homosexuality would manifest itself. This isn't really based on hard evidence I've looked up but just general biological knowledge, so I could be miles off..

But would you say that also if we were discussing a 12 year old who was claiming to be straight?
It might be reasonable to say that nobody can know they are gay before a certain age and equally that nobody can know they are straight before a certain age, but it doesn't seem sensible to claim that a person can always know they're straight, but that knowing that they're gay is conditional on age.
So I'm interested to know what you think.

Re: Gay?
i knew i was gay before 12, im still gay today. if the kids been experimenting sexually he should have a basic idea of what he likes...
i've been told coming out that early is rare, but thats usually by older guys who were in the closet until they're twenties..its also because its definitly easier to be gay in school these days...

Re: Gay?
Eh, it happens. They're twelve, put it together. The kid that was "looking at him" is probably striaght, and the kid that's trying to pick a fight is probably gay. Twelve year olds are fucking cocky and mouthy as hell. Have you ever talked to a twelve year old!?
And yes, it's very possible.

I say I should be allowed to beat them both up, at the same time. I'm almost 24ish, so it'd be more or less a fair fight.

Re: Gay?
Trust me, no 12 year old would know their sexuality. If they still have feelings for the same sex at...16? 17? Then you could be pretty confident they're queer.

It's not a trend, it's just more accepted these days. More people are admitting to being gay or bisexual because there is less fear of discrimination.

Re: Gay?
I started masturbating when I was in 4th grade and even earlier than that my friends and I all knew that we liked girls, just not the ones our age.

Re: Gay?

Dude? I knew I was a pedo from when I was about two. A bit later, most of my classmates knew they liked tits.
Yes.
quote:What on earth would make a kid declare himself gay when he's just starting to discover his sexuality? What are your thoughts?
My thoughts are that "just starting" does not particularly match the discussions I remember from the playground.
And speaking of the playground, time has shown that the kid that everyone thought was gay back in fourth grade is, in fact, very fucking homosexual. Rock on.
Now... your other questions answered? Chances are the person trying to beat his ass is just... trying to beat someone's ass for no reason, really. Asserting the other person's homosexuality is just a... umm... really fucking tasteless way to do it.
I'm guessin'.

Yes, i think you're right, it's impossible for a twelve year old to say eitehr way if they are gay or straight.
however, i'd much more readily accept a 12 year old saying they knew they were straight because, frankly, that is the norm. Homosexuality - no disrespect to them intended at all - is a mutation and is different from what is genetically intended. It's natural to assume someone is not gay.

Re: Gay?
Guys, I know I don't like to admit it either but this is the internet so ya At the early stages of puberty guys estrogen levels rise above their testosterone levels for about two months (remember getting those little hard lumps in your nipples for a few weeks?) I do admit, not that I ever tried it or anything but there was a period when I did wonder about myself and it is something like 73% of men I saw somewhere do admit to at least thinking about it at one point in their life.

Re: Gay?
I knew I was gay when I was 13. Almost 20 now, never had a second thought about it. I was one of the ones who hit puberty earlier and was shaving in seventh grade though. It happens early for some kids, later for others. Sometimes much later, into adulthood even.

Agreed. And emos are attention seeking whores.
People say their gay, so they will be picked on, so that they can walk around school with a sad face on, and get attention... Usually from chicks. Chicks love gay guys for some reason.
