Default Flowers on the first date?

What do you think, Totse?

We met about a year ago when I started my job. We've worked together since, and have become friends. She's leaving soon, and we're going to be going out after we're not working together anymore (yay for no weird co-worker things). I'm thinking just something simple like dinner and movie or something like that. Anyways, do you think flowers at the door when I pick her up would be a good idea?

Thanks in advance for the help, Totse.

Flowers are nice, but keep it simple.

Roses are pretty and smell nice, but there are flowers I like even better.

don't go for roses on a first date, it's a bit too euchh and forward.

most people at work go for carnations or iris with lots of green, it's usually quite nice and not too bolshy.

I think a single rose is fitting, if you go with a rose. I do like the suggestion for iris's. (Purple iris's smell wonderful.) My next choice might be assorted daisy's, they're so simple, pretty and light-hearted.

Of course, if it was summer...I would be a sucker for a bunch of dandelions bound with a ribbon. But then...I'm weird. :P

Flowers on the first date are always a good idea IMO. I personally think that they make a VERY good impression, especially on the first date.

But not anything huge. A small boquet will suffice unless its something special like valentines day, birthday, etc.

I love flowers...My husband brings me home flowers like once a week and it makes me so happy.

I don't think he got them for me on our first date, now that I think back to it!

A small bouquet of hand picked flowers with a ribbon tying them together would be a very sweet gesture. I would highly recommend it for a first date.

My first boyfriend/husband brought me flowers on our first date. But then...he waited a year for me to turn 16 so he could take me out. I wasn't allowed to date, let alone have a "boyfriend" before 16.

Such a sweet memory of "waiting".

Funny, but I had never met the boy. My best friend was dating his best friend and he asked through her the first time. She showed me a photo and I thought he was kind of cute, so I said he'd have to wait until I was 16.

The following year, I was walking through the gymnasium alone as a short cut to class, which was my routine. He was sitting in the bleachers and I caught a glimpse of him out of the corner of my eye and I stopped dead in my tracks. He looked at me and asked me if I had turned 16 yet. I awkwardly said yes and went on to class. Later, he got my number from my girlfriend and asked me out.

See....stalking can work. :P

I always smile thinking about that...even though the marriage didn't work out.

For me I wouldn't.

Why?

If you do she'll have to be carrying them around for the night/day. A single flower by itself could work. Or if you can buy them somewhere handy towards the conclusion of the date that too, I think, would be a good option.

No. We (or I) usually put them in a vase of water before going out. But then, I didn't often date the kind of guy who did not come in to meet the folks.

Yeah true. I meant it if a meeting place was predetermined...say like "meet together at McDonalds at 6pm for a romantic dinner for 2 "

Point taken.

I like old fashioned stuff *shields face from pending slap* yet never remembered the classic 'pick her up at her folks place...or her place for that matter.

I think perhaps these days girls don't want you knowing where they live so early on maybe?? Who knows. Just a idea. No I'm not a creep, no girl would object to me picking them up from their place it's just always come to me to meet up together somewhere.

Flowers are always good. I dated this guy a while back from Tennessee and he brought me flowers on the first date. I thought it was totally awesome. Of course, if you do that she's going to think you really really like her and may be more apt to sleep with you.

PS: I've always been a daffodil type of girl. They're pretty and unconventional.

Cheers,

Lost

I'm not too keen on flowers. If a guy gave me flowers on a first date, I'd be like "wtf am I supposed to do with these?"

I guess it would only work if you are picking her up at her house...

I like gerber daisies: http://www.amazoniaflowers.com/images/Gerbers%204.jpg

Edit - I see that you are picking her up at her house, so yeah, go for it.

LostCause, I always thought you were a guy.

Hey but I am not really a fan of flowers of first date philosophy. I'd rather bring fowers to her after getting to know her better.

No, no, no.

She may squeal with joy, coo over the roses, drag you inside, and tear your clothes off. And that's all good. But you're also giving her the subconscious impression that she's got you, so to speak, that you're pretty much a sure bet as long as she feels like being with you.

Do what you feel, man - nobody knows better than you. But in my humble experience, that's not a good spot to be in. I like a girl to know that no girl is indispensable.
