Default Loss

So, I've never had a problem with being clingy or needy, until I recently lost my brother to the war... since then, it seems like I've become jealous and stereo-typical-girlfriend type... what do I do? I've always hated chicks like this. Help?

If you were close to your brother, acting like this is understandable...You have experienced the loss of an important man in your life, due to someone elses greed, much the way you would feel if your boyfriend cheated on you due to someone elses greed. They are interconnected on a subconscious level. Talk to your boyfriend and tell him why you are acting like this and ask him to please understand that its not permanent. If he will not listen, give me his e-mail address and I will talk to him. I am in the military and abotu to go to war myself, just next week, and I know what its like to lose someone close to you and feel the way you are feeling. Do not beat yourself up about being clingy and whatnot. You need to mourne and be close to those whom you love. If they love you, they will understand. Hope I have been of some helps and let me know how it turns out.

Thank you... I haven't had a chance to talk to him but your words atleast made me feel better. I WAS really close to my brother... we were the youngest in a big family, and the others all moved out when we were young, so it was just the two of us and my mom. He was the kind of person who, you could spit in his face and call him names and he'd still love you... and want to buy you ice cream =) Best of luck on your tour. If you want, send me the address when you get over there, I'll write to you. He was 82nd Airborne, by the way... if it matters to you.

I know a chick who had that same situation... She was in grade 12 and her brother was in Afghanistan when he was killed.

It totally shook her up, she nearly had a nervous breakdown, her schoolwork all but collapsed and hardly anything we could do or say would help...

...Don't let this dominate your life. Please.

Actually, the only part about it that makes it easier is that he died taking a bullet for his CO, who was also a good friend of his. I was the only one in my family who would do the viewing, and someone had to, so now all the good memories are tainted by seeing that... it was a wound to the head. I think that's the part that really gets me.

God damn that's fucked up.

I just watched a Dateline thing with a Marine from Haditha... I'm not sure if it's just we Americans, but I usually feel so detached about the war.

And watching that and reading this just makes it hit you hard how fucked up everything is.

I hope your brother felt that he was fighting for a noble cause, and I hope you do too. Even if it isn't one, I hope you at least feel that way, because it would make it that much harder if you felt he died in vain.

Celebrate his memory, and live the rest of your life like you would think he would want you to.

I am actually going as an attachment to 82nd Airborne, as far as I know, out of Fort Polk, Louisiana. If he deployed december/january timeframe, I was supposed to go then, but the orders got given to someone else. What your brother did...was very noble. It is honestly more than what I would do, but I have a wife and baby boy, and honestly, that's who I am going for, thats who I am fighting for, and thats who I am coming home to. Your brother will be remembered...know that, by you, by his unit, and by everyone who has read this post. Whether he believed in the war or not, your brother died for a good cause - saving someone elses life. And it would be absolutely amazing if you wrote to me. If you have AIM, or MSN, or something give me that name, and I'll contact you for your e-mail address, and you can write me there.

The majority of the nation might be against the war, but all we ask for is personal support, support of the soldiers, and support of the fact that we don't want to be there either. We don't want to leave our families and our friends. Whether he believed in the war or not, your brother died for a good cause - saving someone elses life. P.S. I'm positive that your brother had you in his thoughts until his very last breath. And there's more but I will talk to you about that more in private...
