I'm instinctively an asshole
Aight then...
I've been introverted for the last two terms, and now I'm finally getting more social and getting back into my old 'clique'
(never really left it, but I'm not really talking to them)
Now, problem is when I get in a good mood I start making fun of people.
The way friends do, right?
But since I obviously don't like being happy I usually move from making fun of to downright insulting.
I never know when I'm doing it until people start calling me an asshole.
And it's sort of a selffulfilling prophecy, I'm becoming more and more of an asshole.
Sometimes I just look down on people and see myself as way better than them and then I make fun of the faulty quality in question.

Yep. I've got this problem. I typically come off as anything from a bit of a cunt to a complete and utter bastard. I just can't help myself; I always say things which offend.

Re: I'm instinctively an asshole
Do you start kinda easy, or just say awful things from the start?
One problem is that in the beginning you get such great reactions, especially from the ladies.
So the idiot gear tells you how awesome it is and of course you aamp it up.

With me it often (but not always) hangs on what sort of a mood I'm in. Generally the better the mood; the more insulting I am. When I'm in a bad mood I either rant about anything and everything or silently smoulder.
It's mostly women that I target the remarks at. Dunno why. They're just easier I guess. Either that or women just get offended more easily.
EDIT: Sick_boy, I do think. And I'm guessing the OP does too. I just seem to naturally offend people.

Re: I'm instinctively an asshole
You are obviously not instinctively an asshole, you are just instinctively acting like one when you don't feel like a loser. It's learned behavior and you can unlearn it, the alternative is expansive teeth insurance.

I dunno about the OP but it sure as hell ain't learned behaviour with me. I've always been this way. I genuinely don't know that things I say are going to offend.
As for when I'm in a bad mood; I'm just too pissed off to be bothered speaking.

Don't get caught up in entertaining these people. It sounds like you're starved for attention.

It's not bullying though because it's not intended to hurt/offend.
That being said: On the rare occasions when I do say something with the intent of causing offence/emotional harm I am usually very good at it.

Why did you make this thread? To brag that you're a dick to people? Wow, you sure are a big shot, here's a handful of e-respect. Faggot.

I didn't make this thread. The reason I've been active in it is because I identify with the OP. Believe me, I'd love to be perfectly normal and be able to consistently talk to people without causing them offence and I've really tried to contain it in the past but ended up coming off as cold/false.
Cheers for the e-respect, though. It means a lot to me. You must be either 12 or homophobic if you think that "faggot" constitutes a valid insult.

I'm not buying it. You obviously recognise the fact that the things you say offend people. So the next time you're going to make a snide comment, think "will this offend this person?" If the answer is yes, then simply don't say it.

It's good your friends call you on it, but eventually you will lose them.

To Sick_Boy:
As I mentioned earlier I did try fighting it and thinking everything through but I just came accross as cold/false.
To OC6
I've had my current set of freinds for 7 years now. Before that I sort of moved from group to group. I then met a set of people who accepted that it's a part of me and just to fire shit back my way and we got on fine.

Re: I'm instinctively an asshole
I'm the same exact way. I'm a very domineering person and for some reason whenever I look at people I just see their flaws and how much their flaws bother me. However I've learned to keep my comments on my friends to a minimum and focus on people we're talking about which makes them laugh and turns me into a funny asshole.

So, what's the problem then? If they don't have a problem with it, then why do you?
Are you moving away? Are you sick of your friends?
Why do you feel you need to change? What purpose? What end?
I might have missed it, but how old are you?

I've left school and my old school freinds have all got their own paths to tread as for that matter have I. I'm headed out into the world and I can already see the fan getting up to speed for the shit to hit it.
I'm 18 BTW.

I find it very hard to be nice, so many people are incredible, thoughtless assholes that I can't bring myself to be polite to them after they do something stupid.
I'm beginning to suspect that society is primarily composed of undiagnosed sociopaths.

I find that people are way worse assholes than me in a way thats very subtle.
They wont make fun of someone out right, theyd rather...umm, not make fun of someone. Disclude people.

Re: I'm instinctively an asshole
I'm by no means an asshole.. most of the time.
I am naturally a fun guy. I tease people, make fun of them.. and generally act like a cocky bastard.
Only difference between me and MOST other people that do the same thing: 99% of the time, shes laughing too.
quote:Originally posted by mysterectomy:

QFT.
I have a very good nac at being able to tell what people don't want other people knowing. And am VERY good at getting inside someones head and knowing whats going on in there.
If I say something aimmed at a soft spot.. it will hurt.
