Eldest Offsprung (18 emo-mall-gothy-sk8terboi) has just appeared with some girl and another of his mates (his really cool sk8ta gang i assume).

*eldest goes to fridge and grabs bottle of milk*

Eldest: "Daaaaad , what does homo-genocide mean?"

Dad *not really paying attention* "Uhm what Hitler did to the Gays?"

Eldest Useless object: "It says so here on the bottle"

He meant of course homogenised....!!

Nothing to do with S&A really and I will delete it in a while. Just wanted to demonstrate to you all how your mod suffers not only with dumb arse teenagers here but iRL too!

My answer in the end was simply 'www.dictionary.com'

Oh jack, that's too cute.

Sad...but cute.

You should get him to watch "How It's Made", if you get it over there. Nice show when there's nothing else on, like CSI.

The word 'cute' must mean something different in the American.

I personally see no correlation between an illiterate 18 year old and little fluffy bunnies...beyond them both needing shooting.

Not that I am the almighty parent sent from the heavens to inform Toteseans; but, I agree, give him some time to mature mentally. I may just be that he is 18, his body is physically 18, but his thought processing may not be were it needs to be for his age.

I am not saying he'll never make it, I am saying he may just be lagging in the full development of his brain.

I say this from experince, I didn't seem to start to get shit in life until I was about 21. Then I went to the other extreme and thought I was the smartest SOB on the planet. Now, I am back to just a poor dumb country boy.

Cute, however, means ugly but interesting.

But seriously. Just corrupt him and telling him its a secret message from Hitler about killing Gay people, and that that's wrong. Then tell him any of his friends could secretly be supporting Hitler. If he finds the slightest suggestion of violence or Nazi support, (since violence is obviously a derivative of the Nazi movement), he should kill them and their family.

Let the heads roll.

That's the best post I think I've read from you yet.

I'd say pretty much the same about myself, but mine was from having lived a very sheltered life and getting a poor education. Not that it was the schools fault, mind you. But...I lacked an interest in so many things aside from nature and wildlife. So I knew very little about so much.

The older I get the more I know how little I know. Yet...still...it doesn't matter that much to me. I learn those things that are important to me at the time.

It's good he asks you questions, Jack.

Smack him upside the fucking head and ban him from everything possible until he can read. Jesus christ. And to those of you saying "Oh he's still a kid" HE'S FUCKING 18. He may not be a worldy adult such as yourselves, but he is not a small child any more. I've been able to read better than that since I was 8, for god's sake.

That actually did make me laugh a little. I know I came across as kind of crazy and over-the-top in my last post, but seriously, reading is an important life skill. Sure, he might be able to get by in day to day life with his crappy reading skills, but is that really what you want for your son? Just being able to get by? I'm not saying he has to become a literary scholar or join a book club or something, but if a person can't sit down and enjoy a good book (like a novel, comics and TV Guides don't count) then they're missing out.

Being completely stupid at 18 is fairly common, I wouldn't worry about it too much. All that mostly-useless-but-some-useful crap that teachers, parents, television, etc. have been flinging at him his whole life is in there somewhere, it's just buried somewhere far, far away. Give him a few years, he'll turn out alright.

But go out on his own, without losing his cellphone? No.

Well, he is from Norfolk, innit...

Maybe you should give him long lectures about Louis Pasteur, the development of society, history and all sorts of random topics until you are satisfied he can recite a similar amount of useless but interesting drivel to his friends and acquaintances.

Or chain him to his PC, and make sure "random page" on wikipedia is the only thing he could possibly do?

Hmm......I'm 18 and I can read perfectly fine, plus I know what homogenised means. Sounds like the typical ignorance of an emo/sk8erboi personality type. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Since when do emo children drink milk anyway?

Reading improves literacy and ability to talk like a normal human being. You should at least want him to come across intelligent, don't you? It wasn't until i started reading that I started to use proper spelling and grammar in everyday life. The books were forced on me, but now i read for leisure. They're wonderful, you should try to get him to read. I'd do the same if I had a child.

I am 18, and I think the inability to comprehend the word homogenized makes your son utterly retarded. Usually when 18 year olds are marked as immature its because we have the knowledge to make the correct decison which just choose to make the wrong one in a false sense of confidence.
