We've come so far yet..
I'm not really sure if this belongs here entirely, but I saw it as the best suiting forum so..
Long story short, I've been talking to some girl at school, probably going to hook up. I've been telling my friends about her, how she is really good looking, awesome personality, good taste in music etc, and they're all supportive until I get to what in my mind is a minor detail- the fact that she is black (and I'm white).
In my mind, this wasn't even something I thought about twice, I'm not racist whatsoever, nor did I ever really think it was present to such an extent in today's society. I was shocked when my friends all kind of laughed about it and made fun of my taste in women, even questioning my taste in women, something they'd done just the opposite of prior to this.
Discouraged from their responses, I told my parents, and they both were convinced I wasn't even serious about it since she black and that I should "let her down easy" before I even told them how I had legitmate feelings for her.
Does this shock you at all, that in today's society, 2007, unspoken racism still exists?

Re: We've come so far yet..
its not common these days but it does exist, and it is looked down upon.
if you really like her, go for it.
if it would create too many problems among you and your friends/family forget it... =/

I'm definitly going to pursue it. I mean, she has all the qualities a relationship-worthy white girl would have, I don't any reason not to. In my opinion, it'll be interesting to date someone outside my race, and will be a nice break from dating stupid stuck up white bitches (still getting over my exgirlfriend).

Re: We've come so far yet..
I'd never date a black woman, pretty much because I'm shallow and never found one attractive. That goes for any race outside of whites. I don't see myself as racist because of it.
On the other side, my sister tried to date a black guy once, I was determined not to let it happen. It wasn't entirely because he was black, but I'll admit it had a lot to do with it.
No, it doesn't really shock me that unspoken racism exists now. There will always be racism.

Yeah, I'll side with you as far as feeling that most aren't attractive. It's nothing against them, it's just like not liking girls with red hair or something. This girl, however is absolutely stunning. She's got the figure of a white girl and allegedly models. I'll try to find her myspace for pics..

Let me get this straight hotshot, you think your friends and family are the racist ones?
Race means very little to me, although I have to admit I have never met a fully black girl physically attractive. I have met a few that were mixed black and white, Hispanic, etc. and they have usually been pretty good looking.
Although, in the end, I don't mind any other race. I would also feel kind of bad about dating a black girl because my family is pretty racist against them, and I try to hide this by not introducing my family to girls I like, since I'm afraid they could make a comment that would turn her off to me. Not intentionally, but you know things slip. My dad would probably also think less of me for dating a black girl, but certainly not for any other group.
But also, I grew up in a family that was very tolerant of other groups, since my mother was Native American and my father was white, they both sort of have something against blacks though. I also grew up in a lot of Mexican neighborhoods, so I'm generally a very tolerant person.

No. racism is inevitable in any multiracial society, and there is no way to eliminate it.
Maybe going out with a black girl goes against the norm of where you live? Perhaps they are worried about what will happen when black guys see you with her? maybe about her parents? who knows.
If she is very culturally different to you though, you will have problems. irregardless of race.

Yeah, that is my only concern. I can totally imagine her having a really streotypically racist father who will be suspicious of me for liking her or just think I'm some stupid little white boy and not take me seriously.

Re: We've come so far yet..
Why do you give a fuck what other people think about her????!!!
Are they going to be the ones spending time with her? Holding her hand? Having a conversation with her? Kissing her?!
NO!
It's up to you who.. or in this instance, what, you want to date. No one else, YOU.

qtf. you're the one that likes her; fuck your friends and family if they're not supportive.
if it's really that big of a deal to them, don't mention it for a couple of weeks. then tell them about this amazing girl that you just started dating and how great and good looking she is, then once they're convinced she's the girl of your dreams, introduce them. that will probably be the only way to make them realize that she's not the 'stereotypical' black girl, although it might make for an awkward meeting.

Re: We've come so far yet..
The racism goes both ways.My ex was black (cafe au lai black). Try being a 6ft white skinhead in army surplus walking hand in hand with a black girl in a 'black' area (Brixton)...I thought we were gonna get knifed.
She also told me that black girls who date white guys get called 'coconuts' by black men (coconut=black on the outside, white on the inside).

Why the fuck do you care if someone wants to have sex with you? You're the one that wants it, go out and get it!

Re: We've come so far yet..
dude i had the same fucking problem. we really liked eachother for awhile but were kinda afraid to actually do anything because of our family/friends. her parents would kill her, they IS racist, and my parents would probably disown me. well i got sick for abotu 2 weeks and we didnt talk, i dont have a phone it broke, and i figured out from some people that she lost her interest and moved on. i honestly jsut lost interest with her 2 so it didnt matter to me. family/friends are kinda big influences

Re: We've come so far yet..
Dude, my policy is to not respond to anyone under the age of 18, since my responses are generally of adult content, so I'll assume you are in college and over the age of 18.
Black women are cool. These fucking white bitches are all fucked up. Now I am talking about the American girls, I really can't talk about any other society or culture.
I'll take a good looking black girl over some good looking, whinny ass, demanding, self centered, narcissistic, egotistical, gold digging, phony, fake, surgically enhanced, medicated, psychotic, anorexic, borderline, white chick any day of the week.
I really believe the stereotypical Anglo-white bitch in America, is digging their own grave. They are going to alienate all of the Caucasian men and the only thing left for them will the broke ass men of color. They will deserve what they get.
I predict this will happen; but, it will take about two more generations to fulfill.

Thanks for the response, and I'm 18, so your words weren't wasted (haha).
