I've been looking for a while now.

I can't seem to find any, only older versions, or the new version, only it's not in .tgz format.

Does anyone have any suggestions or sites to look through?

.tgz is Slackware tar gzip packages.

http://gcc.gnu.org/

Are you talking about a slackware package or just a tar gzip? tgz doesn't specially refer to slackware packages, I can tar something up and gzip it and call it a tgz if I want.

Right. Linux/Unix/BSD doesn't rely on filename extensions solely. A .tgz is just a tarred gzipped archive and is pretty common with Slackware.

Basically I was looking for the extension that would work with the Package Install Manager.

It won't take anything but .tgz so I figured that's what I'd get.

Now I can get the .bz2, and maybe the .gz, so what would I need to download to tar/gzip it myself or do you think I have a chance at finding a package online somewhere?

Is that for slackware? Which version?

http://slackware.it/en/pb/browse.php?q=10.2/slackware/d

Slackware ships with an older version of gcc.

For bz2 just:

bzip2 -d file.tar.bz2 && gzip -9 file.tar && mv file.tar.gz file.tgz

For gz just:

mv file.tar.gz file.tgz

Could you use an older version of nidswrapper?

?

Never thought of that.

I could try, and I assume I will if this doesn't work.

Well, thanks to biospy I mananged to get the file into a .tgz format.

It's just the one main gcc-4.1.1.tgz package.

Do I need other files as well?

When I open the package manager, and select new file, and try to install it.

It begins the process, and then ends shortly after a quick lag and displays "Results=0".

Should I use pkgtool on the konsole?

Either I am completely offtrack or you are. Where did you get your files from?

I am *guessing* that you have downloaded a source packache from the gcc site and not a slackware binary. Am I correct?

Pkginstall doesn't show up.

And yes, I'm off track, as always with these kinds of technicalities.

I need a "slackware binary"?

pkginstall is just a SLackware tool to install packages.

I dont believe that anyone has made a slackware binary package of gcc 4, so unless you feel like compiling gcc 4 yourself you are stuck with an old version.

You could try the ndiswrapper package from linuxpackages.net here. (http://www.linuxpackages.net/pkg_details.php?id=9296)
