I've been selling DVDs at my high school with a couple of buddies for 6 months, and it isn't selling too well. The problem seems to be the price. I charge $5 per DVD and $2.5 per music CDs. It seems like $5 would be too much, but anything less than $5 would definitely be too little of a profit for me. I've tried getting people to use referral and I would cut a 20% share for them. Usually only a handful of people buy a whole mess of DVDs, but I would rather have more people buy less, since it could increase referrals and recommendation.

I think $5 is a pretty decent price comparing to all the DVDs on the shelfs. I don't plan on lowering it, although I would raise it if it's an important asset. And no, I don't want to sell any pornographic material, since it could haul me in a bigger wreck if I get caught. Me and my buddies are probably the only guys in school who does this, so there's no competition. I haven't been selling during the summer, so I haven't been updating the site as often.

Here is the link: http://tryss.sitesled.com/sale.htm

(I keep the link in my AIM profile)

Perhaps if you guys have any ideas or advice on how I can increase my profits, please, feel free to post.

Ok, basically, I make shitloads of money selling DVDs at my dorm. The trick to this is to buy a DVD, and then put all the necessary software on a CD and have them pay to copy the DVD. Since my dorm never goes to Fry's or anywhere like that, I can sell DVDs and blank DVDs at exorbitant prices ($6 per blank DVD and $1 to rent a DVD) and people will pay. The trick is to look like you have it all working out. Make a list of all the DVDs you can get access to and pass it around, maybe put a 1-second image of your name at the start of the menu screen. You can do this using DVD-Shrink or DVD Decrypter, which I think are better than anything else. They're free. Also, I can get you a hacked version of Super DVD Ripper, which rips and encodes DVDs quickly and painlessly. Good luck!

Cool, what I do is I download the videos files off torrent, the highest quality ones, and then convert it to DVD with Divx-to-DVD. The program's free and faster than any other softwares, so I think the only drawback for my DVDs is that they don't have a menu. I would imagine alot more income if there was a menu. I don't want to go out and rent DVDs, which is a hassle and would waste money on something I can get online. Even though, I still think the low price of $5 makes up for the missing menu. I DO make it seem like I have it all worked out, and I do.

What I'm trying to do is make some kind of business stragetic move, like setting a quota for all my referrers to follow, that way I can expect a steady income every week or month.

I don't get your post though, did you sell the softwares or DVDs? I was confused by what you meant by buying a DVD and selling softwares for them to copy. However, what you did, did sound like smooth sailing. Thanks for sharing.

SWI6C sold bootleg DVD's in DVD cases with a mini movie poster on the case. SWI6C sold for $10 each. SWI6C made $180 profeit in 3 days. SWI6C bought em at a flee market for $5 each.

Sorry for all the SWI6C shit, but I've been really paranoid lately.

I don't see how putting "Someone who is 6C" would help.

I would think there would be a much better demand at college than at high school. A lot more free time in college (for people who would buy illegal dvd's). Especially at a college you losers could get into.

I've always wondered: How do you find a flea market?

...or the black market?

Actually, though the demand is lower, the supply is smaller because half the high school dorm people can't get out of the dorm easily.

There's this old lady that sells DVDs for $5, they are copies of legit DVDs and she gives you a case with a cover.

Try giving your customers more bang for their buck. Or sell porn.

Every one in college has broad band internet, and if you are in the dorms you probably have access to I2 and are on atleast a T3. No need to pay for a file that can be downloaded in less than 10 minutes.

Most colleges also cap bandwidth in the dorms.

Blame Metallica.

Selling illegal DVDs is bad enough, but porno DVD is even worth itself if I'm caught.

I just purchased a dual layer DVD RW on ebay. I am planning on burning "backups" of xbox games, dvds, and ps2 games. I Need to figure out a way to make some extra money with my free time and I thought that this might be a good way to do it.. My girlfriend works in a porn shop with tons of dvds and I was thinking that burning copies of those might be my best bet, I could sell them for like 3 for 25 or 10 bucks each.

Sounds like a plan that would require alot of work and money. I would probably need alot of DVD cases (expensive) and a fast color copier (for the covers) which would attract alot of attention at Kinko's. I would also have to increase the price, which would maybe attract fewer customers. It's a good idea, and I'll think about it.

By the way, where do you get DVD covers?

Search up some movie posters, or any image that would be suitable, and shrink/stretch it to the right size.

OK, I've found my source for DVD covers already. Now I need a high-res color printer... which I do not have. I do, however, have a b&w laser printer though. Any ideas?

Do you sell and ship these DVD's to any one or is it just a list for kids in your school to look at?
