| Cunning Linguists Languages and their use. What languages do you speak and why? What do words really mean? Can you say things in one language that you can't say in another? Should there be a national language? How many languages should a person know and what are they? |

I don't have any connection with Finland, but i've heard it and it is an amazing language so I'm thinking about learning it. Problem is, it is the ownly language in Europe with no connection with another European language so I'll basically be starting from scratch, which may take a while. Has anyone here learnt Finnish? If so, can you speak some of that sexy, sexy language to me and tell me how long it took you to learn.

Yes, from what I hear it makes Latin seem like playground rhymes. The man must like torture.

Heh, Finnish is a VERY hard language to learn as there is lots of vowels and other stuff that isn't in the majority of languages. The best advice from me is that you get a finnish friend (or born as a finn ).

I'm Finnish. It's hard. I'm living abroad and take Finnish lessons to keep up the language, I speak it at home too. I'm pretty fluent but after living abroad for 11 years of your life the language starts to fade. If you want to learn it make sure to keep it up. It's a very complex language so good luck. Get plenty of practice and make as many Finnish friends to practice with as possible.
