I've always wondered about all the 'merd' words in Romance languages. (merde, mierda, merda, etc) I wonder why English doesn't have an equivalent, given the shitloads of influncence Romance languages have had on English.

That's a question about "himmeldonnerwetter" (German) - what does it mean?.. "heaven thunder weather"? Gibt es a descriptive translation?..

Himmeldonnerwetter is pejorative and kinda a little bit old-fashioned. (Donnerwetter is used more frequently). I can't quite explain what it means but it is something along the lines of an expression that you use when you are angry, shocked, surprised (the last one is more suitable for Donnerwetter).

donnerwetter (http://dict.leo.org/?search=donnerwetter&searchLoc=0&relink=on&spellToler=std§Hdr=on&tableBorder=1&cmpType=relaxed&lang=de) means thunderstorm, has something to do with the old german god Donar (old saxon Thunar). Now Himmeldonnerwetter is a connection to the christian religion, combining it with "heaven". One of the things priests did to prevent the old german beliefs and myths. Other examples are "Donnerlittchen", "Himmel, Arsch und Zwirn!", "Himmelherrgott noch mal!" and "Himmelkruzituerken noch mal!" ...

Re: swearing in a different launguage
Especially for ZYNKO: your Russian " My Name is" , having been correctly supplied by another (PIE) I think you will find that computer language in other languages is largely English and think most Germans would understand the word :"username" usw. How about some cusswords out of the "Asterix" Comics I enjoyed so much in Koeln?

Re: swearing in a different launguage
Japanese bad language is fairly tame in comparison to English - mostly just corruptions of ordinary speech (ooh shocking), but I guess it's rude to them.
Few examples:
baka yarou - 'fucking' idiot (you may have heard 'fuck yarou' in the movie Kill Bill)
oppai - breasts (ooh!)
yabai - 'chancy' (used like 'oh fuck! we're in the shit now')
Must do some more research on this.

Re: swearing in a different launguage
Suka - Sort of like, the equivelent of bitch in Russian [Though I've never tried translating it in a sentence context]
In hebrew -
Ben zona - It's ment to be the equivelent of bastard, but a literal translation is son of a whore.
Zona being whore.
Bat zona - Also the equivelent of bitch, the literal translation being daughter of a whore.
The rest I can't be bothered typing up..

Re: swearing in a different launguage
Kankerlijer.
One who suffers from cancer, people usually take offense to it.
Je kankerhoerenmoeder.
And again something that sounds completely retarded when translated.
Your whore mother that has cancer would be most accurate.
Je kan de tering krijgen.
Non literal: Go fuck yourself.
Val dood.
Drop dead.
Ga onder een trein spelen.
Go play under a train.
Implying that you want him or her to be hit by a train.
Hondsvot.
Lit: Cowardly and disgusting person.
Second meaning: the genital parts of a bitch.
Pisnicht.
Not translatable, closest you could get is fag².
Geitenneuker.
Goat-fucker.
Jij bent het restdeel van een abortus gepleegd op een geit uit de Marokkaanse hooglanden.
You are the remains of the abortion that was performed on a goat from the Moroccan highlands.
More on request.

Re: swearing in a different launguage
Finnish language is good language to insult someone who isn't Finnish. Like:
Saatanan huora, hiihä vittuun siitä = You devils whore, ski to cunt!
And there are finnish swears that fit everywhere:
Perkele = Devil
Saatana = also, Devil

I think that learning swear words in other languages is pointless. To me, the point of swear words is to let someone else know that i'm pised, what good does it do if they can't understand me?
