What's the best form of self-defense that can be used in the streets.

Using your head and having a firearm just in case.
Or if you're talking about unarmed combat it depends on you, where you are, whether you want to take classes, whether there are the schools nearby, etc.
Most practical things for the street?
IMHO: Krav Maga, Mauy Thai, Boxing and not being a dumbarse.

Most practical kind of fighting?
Lots of experience.
You can have all the black belts in all the funny sounding crap that you want. It will help, but you can still get your ass beat by someone that doesn't grab your wrist "just like this" or kicks you in the balls.
I think rex kwan do would be a good one to learn though.

What do you think about Aikido Judo? There's a place around here that has mixed Jiu Jitsu with wrestling and boxing, what do you think? I think aikido judo is a very great form of unarmed hand-to-hand combat.

Any decent system will have a universal escape for all wrist grabs, all chokes etc.
Anybody thats disaplined and motivated can take a shot to the balls.
There are a lot of Tae kwon do places(other arts too) that are just like Rex Kwon Do.
I can beat anybody, and anybody can beat me. Simplest way to put it.
The most effective for of self defence would probobly be having "street smarts" and avoiding a situation. Firearms, with good training are great too.
Ive never heard or a cross breed Aikido-Judo. Aikido, Jiu-jitsu and Judo are related and quite similar. Jiu-jitsu, boxing and wrestling sounds like mixed martial arts(MMA) A great sport but it is not ideal for self defence. Assuming you have a decent instructor any one is fine.
In any system you need to:
-Learn to avoid and escape confrontations
-Practice techniques with a highly aggressive, resistant opponent. Once you get the techniques down, that is.
-Avoid any rules. Brutal, dirty and no "this technique is too dangerous to spar with" crap
-Learn not to "fight" and attacker but eliminate him without letting him have giving him a chance. Fighting is for WCW and the ring.
-Avoid any systems that use highly complicated techniques, and lots of them. If you cant do it right first time, every time it wont work for you. You need something thats simple yet effective, so that it works well under stress.

you should take a womens self defense class. it'll teach you to scream "thats my purse!" and kick a guy in the nuts.

How do you know if a martial art can be used in the streets? I'm sure the basic training the military gives is for use on the street if you are to defend yourself. I don't want to take a class that is about "the art of the sport". I want to be able to defend myself and my girl if anything were to happen. I don't wanna go down like "please don't punch me!! Hunnie just give him your purse, he's armed with a pencil for god's sake!".

Please re-read first my post.
More on top of it- You CAN get something out of any art, most Martial Arts are not ideal for combat.
There is no set military training. The US Army training is heavily based on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The Marine corps has their "own" system which is primarily Judo and Karate. Military personell recieve very little hand to hand training from the military- some operators choose to get instruction oin their own in all sorts of systems.
Its easier to avoid a situation then to get out of one. Dont worry about impressing your "girl"

That's the best advice so far. Girls don't like fighting, except for a few. I know a few people who tried to impress their girlfriends and getting knocked the fuck out. One ended up in a coma.

Re: self-defense (question)
Yup
Put one guy(alone) in a situation where a group of people make negative comments towards him. What will he do? Walk away and thats it.
Put that same guy in the same situation with a female companion and/or a couple of buddies, and he will start making comments back and be ready to fight to protect his manhood.
Most bitches would enjoy 2 guys fighting over them, or some asshole doing the above.
Its different when its a real situation, like somebody trying to rob/kill the male and rape her.
