Can you walk the streets with a sword? Is there such thing as a concealable sword? And wouldn't you get arrested for having one on the streets?

theres a homeless guy that walks the streets of Seattle, we used to call him "camo-man" because he wears full BDUs everyday, and a Samurai sword on his back. I dont know if its legal, but most of the time the cops leave him alone unless he's bothering somebody.

I think a trigger happy cop might shoot you seriously, there was a case were a kid pulled a silver rapped Three Muskateer bar out of his pocket and the cops shot him, they thought it was a chrome gun.

I'm in MA and I carry a sword regularly. The only time I've been stopped was when I was in Boston for a day. That was right after 9/11, so I understood the level of security.

No one seems to bother me if I walk down the street with one. they often won't even look at me. (Why is that?)

In Australia it is illegal. Its probably against the law to carry a teaspoon.

State law varies, where are you from?
Odds are you would have to open carry it (so it could be seen by everyone) or carry it in a case.

Re: Walking with a sword.
You CAN make a knife-like weapon out of an umbrella. it would be more of a spike, but if you bought one, and you have those umbrellas that have replacable handles, screw the handle out, bore a 2 inch deep hole, stick the spike there, fasten it, reattach the umbrella, and you have a working umbrella that doubles as a weapon. Reminder: its a spike, not a knife, so you can't really slash with it.

Re: Walking with a sword.
Miyamoto Musashi was the greatest swordfighter who ever lived, and he would go around Japan challenging, beating, and killing his opponents-armed with nothing but a stick. A true warrior doesn't need a sword. Your mind is the only true weapon.

Re: Walking with a sword.
well, if your really tall, there is a place where it is illegal to carry concealed weapons less than 6 feet in length, so if you find a sword over 6 feet, you could legally conceal it there. i cant remember what state it is, but its one of those kooky laws that people are too lazy to take away.

Re: Walking with a sword.
im pretty sure its illegal to walk round with a sword, even if it isnt you'll still probably get shot for doing it.
If you really want to carry a sword get a sword cane or there are various other sword-something combos out there just google for it

Re: Walking with a sword.
I would have to assume you guys have heard about this story by now.
No surprise this took place in california!
IRVINE, California (AP) -- A man wielding a large knife or sword killed two people and injured three others at an Albertson's supermarket Sunday morning before police fatally shot him, authorities said.
Shoppers fled the store as police went in to find the man shortly after 9:30 a.m. (12:30 p.m. EDT), Irvine Police Lt. Jeff Love said. The suspect confronted an officer before police shot him, Love said.
The two people killed were dead when police arrived. The three injured people and the suspect were transported to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, California, Love said.
One of the injured men suffered "moderate trauma injuries," while another man and woman had minor lacerations, said Capt. Stephen Miller of the Orange County Fire Authority. The suspect died at the hospital.
Stunned workers gathered at the store's parking lot.
"We're in Irvine, California," said Denese Ecker, who works at another Albertson's. "You just don't think things like this will happen. It makes you think about what's important."
Ecker said she went to the store after learning a former co-worker had been killed.
"This man got up this morning, went to work, kissed his wife goodbye, and from what I hear, he's gone. I'm just devastated," she said.
Love said it was "very bloody inside" and called the attacks an aberration in the city about 40 miles southeast of Los Angeles, California. He said the city of 143,000 averages less than one murder a year.
"It's a very crime-free community. So this is quite a serious event for us," Love said.
