One site will give you everthing, The Great Throwzini. The free book is well worth printing out (unless you like throwing knives at your 'puter)

Be aware you need lots of practice. My sweetie spent 4-5 hours in a box car between Texas and California getting a reasonable proficiency, but she is a quick study, has great reflexes and hand-eye coordination.

Most folks would need hours of practice every day for days. I don't have anywhere that much patience, but I did get pretty good with a blowgun much faster.

Also, shurikens are quicker to learn.

I've found in my silly everyday ventures with things to do when bored, that kitchen knives are generally worthless for throwing. You really do need knives designed for throwing, where the blade is heavier than the handle, or else the knife will tend to spin too much or just hit handle first.

I agree, Shuriken are much easier to use as there's more chance of hitting the target blade-first. If you're looking for something you can use in a pinch, I'd go with them. Throwing knives takes a hell of a lot more practice and calculation, whereas a good ol' shuriken can be thrown hastily.

I've never thrown shurikens, but I did own a couple cheapo hibben throwing knives. The level of practice really depends on the level of proficiency you want. If you're like me, you just wanna land the thing somewhere where it'll stick in the guy's body while you book - give him something to think about before he decides to give chase. I found myself able to land the knife in a man-sized target on a consistent basis after just practicing for a few hours, though my friend Dan did help. Of course, if you wanna put it in his eye, clear your schedule...

ahh, thats something i havnt thought about in a while. about 6 months ago was he last time i threw a knife, but i could stick it into something 20 feet away 8 out of 10 times. except when people were watching. i guess i get nervous when people watch me. I could barely get a stick at like 10 feet when someone was watching, sometimes worse.

Its a fun hobby though.

Why use throwing knives when you could use a throwing axe? A throwing axe is about $5 more than a set of 3 throwing knives. Get someone with a throwing axe and its not likely they will chase you

Is that why i can buy throwing knives/axes etc at the local mall?

Maybe they are banned where you are, but not everywhere.

And yes, I am calling anyone who would throw a knife or axe at someone a retard.

Especially since its just throwing away a perfectly good (and maybe your only) weapon.

They are called 'collection weapons' or 'imitation weapons'. My point being they are not classified as real weapons, merely display items. Henceforth you can buy them from shops legally and in most cases without a license. Some throwing knives are legal to use, but not on people. Besides, if you throw an axe at someone, you can walk back and collect it. It's not likely

they will be able to stop you, put up a fight or chase you. Think about it.

you would need one heavy fucking axe and one stupid person...

i agree with obakeyatsu throwing it at some one or something is always your LAST choice. Because if you miss or if it doesnt hit correctly (moving target) they have the weapon and you have nothing (unless if you've got more knives/axes). throwing is always a last resort.

A throwing axe is a specially designed and made axe, not a battle axe. They are not very heavy, easy to aim and easy to throw. But you don't always need to throw them, they make quite good close combat weapons. Besides, if you pulled an axe out and went to throw it at someone they would be sprinting away before you could let go of it.

Also, when throwing the axe you take a step forward and follow the axe in. If you hit, you can grab it and run fast, and if you miss or they dodge they will be distracted and off-balance, leaving themselves open for an easy knockout by the thrower

i shall share muh knowledge on throwing knives/stars/sharp pointy objects. for throwing a knife, the japanese-ninja style was to hold it between your index and middle finger. stand 90 degree angle from your target, and hold that knife with those two fingers. trust me, it's harder than it sounds, but all it takes is movements of your lower arm. no flickage of wrist, no little snappage of elbow, just gentle and elegant throwing motion. with your elbow pointing at your target (your elbow is pretty much your sight), bring your lower arm to your chest. it should look like you're doing the peace symbol on your chest, only with fingers closed and a knife in between. to throw, simply extend your arm and release knife. it go spinny-spinny through the air, and hopefully it hits target. now, throwing a shuriken (ninja star, chinese star, throwing star... etc. etc.) is very similar. the only difference is, you also use your thumb and you hold it differently. your thumb and middle finger should be holding the shuriken at the middle, and your index should rest either on a point or in between, depending on how many points there are. when you throw it, again, extend arm straight out, no flicking or what have you. with enough practise, once thrown, the shuriken SHOULD go where your index finger is pointing. but, there are always factors such as wind, velocity, revolutions per second, and so on. i've gotten enough practise that it's a spinning circle of death that goes pretty straight.

When throwing knifes the spin is what keeps it going straight. Timing the spins to get the point first on impact is the real challenge.

If you want to share your knowledge of pointy objects, then how do you think you throw a shuriken SPIKE. Not a star a SPIKE?(I know myself, I use them lots, but I wish to know the CORRECT way. The way i throw them still works, but do you know the right ay?)

my personal opinion on this, and it is very limited

but it isnt really worth trying to learn to throw knives. too hard, not like in the movies. if you want to become good at it (like a combat knife thrower or whatever), it takes much longer to learn than anything else. might as well use the time to save up and buy a gun.........or something more effective

I concur with SKD. Don't waste your time throwing knives and expecting it to be useful in a combat situation. It's much like throwing darts, or bowling, or any other sport involving hand-eye coordination. As is the tomahawk.

I'm sure in the past there have been individuals who have been sufficiently proficient with throwing weapons as to have used them effectively in combat. However, it takes an inordinate amount of skill and practice.

You would have to have a set distance with a specific piece and a specific immobile target in order to have any degree of accuracy, as you would have to have a set number of rotations for the knife. There *are* ways to throw knives with no rotation; however, it's nowhere near as powerful, and the range is much less for the average person.

You also have to understand that in knife-throwing you never start out throwing the knife hard, as you lose accuracy. With practice, range and power develops, but it takes quite some time. There's no magic formula.

And there's almost no way you'll hit a moving target. You'd have to have a faster projectile.

Edited to add: I've seen a site in which a person came up with a formula for finding the number of rotations required for a knife at a set distance. There are many other variables and you'll have to adjust accordingly.

peace out.

sph3ric pyramid.
