betadine, useless?
searched and searched I hate to start a thread just for this but....
Can betadine be used with the muratic/peroxide iodine synth?
Is it true ALL betadine has an extreamly low iodine content and all yeilds would suck balls?
EDIT:
almost forgot "dechlorized" tincture, will the sulfuric/bleach method work? I am quite fond of the sulfuric/bleach synth unfortunalty standard tincture sources have dried up.

Re: betadine, useless?
Decolorized will work. However, you must remember that the signs usually to look for are transparent and you must be precise with your chemicals as too much will fuck the isolation and concentration of the crystals.
And ain't nothing wrong wioth the ole-bleah/sulphuric acid route.
Ain't no reason it can not work where the muriatic and peroxide work and vice versa.
Just like gassing with muriatic and foil or sulphuric and straight salt.
Where one works so will the other.
Jam.

Re: betadine, useless?
SWIM thinks its important to add that dry gas and low pressures can be realized from muritaic acid, without the addition of tinfoil as well. SWIM agrees with Jam that adding foil to murry produces high pressures which could easily become a problem not to mention the HCL gas produced is 50% warm moisture. Gassing with this method will result in loss of product for damn sure. SWIM however did find a way (thanks to Dwarfer) to build a gasser that uses muriatic acid, has no pressure and produces DRY HCL gas. SWIM isnt gonna post it here simply cuz its such a fuckin pain in the ass to post pics on this site. anyone thats interested in seeing the writeup and pics find your way over to wetdreams to the dream scrounging forum. its all there for the learning man. the reason SWIM is saying this is cuz he thinks bees get the impression that the murry/foil method is the only way to gas using murry and that the only alternative is sulphuric/salt but thats simply not the case.
EDIT: SWIM realizes this is off topic here but has been wanting to address this subject for awhile and let bees know that murry can produce DRY SAFE gas.

My question is: Is the betadine so LOW in actual iodine content one would be wasting swims time in trying to pulling some iodine crystals out of it?
PS thanks for helping swims iodine quest.

Re: betadine, useless?
it is more a problem of extracting it rather than how much is in it.
swim has attempted extraction by adding naoh until it turned yellow then heated until dry, added dh20. then two electrodes (2mm welding rod with flux taken off about an inch long) were suspended in solution then attached to a dc transformer(6v).
the iodine should attach itself to one of the electrodes(anode). but it never worked for swim.
