You're half-right Bro.
The oxygen molecule which is attatched to the Nitrogen[C10H15ON or C10H15NO]<---why is it you see both Empirical Formulas used?! Doesn't Empirical Mean Absolute?!
Sorry bill back to what I was explaining
Ok. So the ole-tn carbons-->C10
Fifteen hydrogens-->H15
Nitrogen-->N
Oxygen-->O
Is Reduced and Reduced means that the Empirical Formula is Altered/Changed/REDUCED in this particular situation.
And when the pseudo[C10H15NO] is reduced or as I like to term it:"Stripped" of it's Oxygen that familiar drug called methamphetamine[C10H15N] is the resultant product.
I say it like this to help explain and enable comprehension of the simple nuts and bolts of the reaction and the fact that no ADDED molecules like Hydrogen is added.
Amphetamine is C9H13N.<----Add a carbon and two hydrogens here and you net methamphetamine. This would not be a REDUCTION. As we are not reducing.
So reductions reduce the Total Number of Molecules in the Chemical/Substances at hands' Empirical Formula.
Make sense?!
If not I got a dollar and will gladly break off some change here and then surely make for you some sense.
Jam is waking and baking today(a rare event mind you!!)
So pardon his possible silly toned replies today. I'll be editing a lot today I'm sure.(fuck it hey?!)
Jam.
