im a new poster on this forum hailing from perth Australia.

swigb has a whole lot of strikepads from matchbooks and is ready to follow the procedure on rhodium.ws "the matchbook red phosphorous bible."

swigb wants to know if he was to immerse the strikepads in acetone and leave them for an extended period of time (ie. overnight) with the occasional quick hand stir every few hours; would this be just as effective as the method detailed in the above article which involves mixing vigorously with a hand mixer for a relatively short period of time.

swigb realises that an overnight soak may be considered unnecessary but asks in light of the fact that a jar under a bed for the night is a lot less conspicious than drilling into 5 gallon drums and blasting away with a hand mixer.

the reason behind the vigorous stirring is the agitation and movement helps uncleave the red phos from the pad and impurities,,

this is required and can not be avoided..

with out it your yield will be reduced...

im very pleased to see,,and commend you,,on your ability to desire knowledge,,access it,,study and understand it,,then act upon it,,before coming to us with minor technique problems..

the recipes at rhodium are only posted when proven,,how you read them is how you do them,,do not stray from the methods displayed until you have a number of successes under your belt,,,

then begin to fine tune the technique to suit your own personal area and precursors.

who told you to hand stir acetone....

to immerse ones hand in acetone would instantly remove any and all natural body oils,,it wouldnt take many such immersions to leave enough body oil to taint the meth..

i have been reading here for a while now and there do seem to be quite a few prospective cooks from per... i mean... sydney, NSW.

one other thing that you may be able to answer mr kirby: should swigb make a trip to a hardware store aiming to purchase xylene, what cover story should swigb use, or is a cover story even necessary? swigb has no idea whatsoever of xylenes uses but a couple of phonecalls to various hardware stores in search of xylene all yielded a "no we dont stock that." it could just be swigbs imagination fuelled with paranoia but he sensed each rejected was slightly tinged with suspicion.

So, to avoid making a wanker of himself when he goes to buy it, swigb wants to know how to answer when faced with the "what do u need it for" question.



in response to pps: i meant hand stir as in using a wooden spoon or somethin but doing it by hand as opposed to an electric one... wasnt planning on shoving hands in the shit and having a feel around :P

xylene is a paint thinner

metal cleaner

xylene is a thinner for oil based paints as well as a clean evaporating solvent. the advantage of using xylene over mineral spirits for thinning is that the xylene evaporates much faster, thus requiring less drying time between coats

Strikers are on average 50%red phosphorus

The rest is abrasive and these days camoflaugue for the shit grade of black phosphurus being used.

It is red but perhaps it is not.

Black is after red in grades of phosphorus



Red and black come from white/yellow refluxes.



Real RP is red like SWIM Wicked's buddy had in that pic.
