Default PCE and JD availability

First post here in LT, but I've been searching/reading posts like mad

Anyway, the PCE/JD method seems to be the 'way to go' but damned if swim doesn't have a severe problem in acquiring actual PCE and JD. Swim hasn't seen JD *or* PCE in WallyWorld or Kragen, when it seems like they really should be there.

At those places, all the brake cleaners they have contain acetone, toulene, xylene, CO2 as a propellant, and some other chemicals, none of which is PCE. Some other brake cleaners are just made from petroleum distallates.

As for JD, swim haven't been able to find that anywhere as well. The useless employees don't even know wtf swim means by paint dryer/evaporator or what JD is.

So what gives?

Is there anywhere that is known for sure to have either of these compounds? It's frustrating when all the brake cleaners have exactly the stuff swim *doesn't* want, and no one knows what JD is.

Any help would be appreciated, and I don't think I deserve a flaming because I think this is a legit question.

(also, the WallyWorld swim went to was fairly new and they didn't even have muriatic acid or a pool center. Could that be why they don't have PCE/JD in stock? I could go to another WallyWorld to check I suppose)

is that the only stores you got is shithole walmart? for the JD try lowes, home depot, ace hardware, true value etc. you want the brand made by kleenstrip.it will say kleenstrip on the top/middle of the can on a little logo about the size of a nickle. than say JAPAN DRIER in big letters across the front.

for the brakleen (TCE) try napa, autozone, schucks etc. you want the red/black and white can with the black top. made by CRC only two ingrediants, TCE and carbon dioxide as a propellant. stay away from the green and white can of brakleen that says "non-clhorinated"

Thanks you guys for responding.

Wow. I may be a complete retard methinks. I went on wetdreams and saw the pic of the TCE, and I saw a bottle like that at Kragens, but I swear it said it had toulene and other shit in it, and I couldn't see any PCE or TCE written on it! Is it just not written on there, or is it a different kind of brakleen?

I will definately go into town now to look for the JD and the TCE. Thanks all!

Hot news flash gang, SWID just stopped by Advance Auto Parts today to pick up some Brake Kleen and right next to it, with a sign advertising it and the fact that it was cheaper, was Advance Auto Parts brand. SWId check and the contents were exactly the same! Anyway, the Brake Kleen brand cost $2.89 a can and SWID bought the Advance Auto Parts brand for .99 cents a can...SWID thought he got a great deal and wanted to share this with his friends

Well goddamn. After going back to Kragen, the can I saw was definately a non-chlorinated one. In fact they were *all* non-chlorinated. So I ask the guy that worked there why the normal stuff wasn't there and he told me chlorinated products are now illegal in Cali. WTF? Is there any truth to this? And if so, who wants to ship me a normal can?

K Sizzle, SWID normally doesn't get involved in leading people by the hand, but since it seems that you do have a dilemma he will try and help.

First off, this is the age of the computer and there isn't anything in this world (and I do mean anything) that you can't get off the Internet. That goes for drugs (yes you can get drugs off the internet) to a hooker, to plans and parts for a nuclear bomb! If you can think of it, it can be found online and easily acquired. Some things take a little more searching than others but they are all there for the resourceful.

That being said, have you considered buying your product online? SWID did a simple search for Advance Auto Parts, then clicked on their online order thread, then on chemicals, then on brake parts and guess what, there was the chlorinated version of Brakeleen ready for SWID to purchase right off his computer and have delivered right to his door. Now SWID doesn't live in California but he feels certain that you can probably order and have this product delivered right to you front step.

Here’s the link http://www.advanceautoparts.com/

Now I have drawn the picture, it's up to you to fill in the colors. Good luck my friend

Yeah, I was afraid I'd have to order it online... Oh well, not a problem; I just wanted it sooner, heh.

As for autosupply, they don't even show it for me with my area code in, so I assume they won't ship it.

But I did find a vendor that would! excellent.

Now I just have to find JD.

Thanks for all of your help

If you don't find the JD in the places already listed, you can usually find it in most paint stores.

if you live in cali you WONT find TCE for sale anywhere. it has been banned in cali for awhile now. shit man if SWIM knew you lived there he could have saved you some time. however SWIM is sure you will find a way to aquire what you need. theres more ways to get the shit than are seconds in a day. if you have too, get in your car and head to nevada. go to vegas, do some gambling, see some strippers, raise a little hell, buy a case or two of brakleen. i would also suggest not being caught with the shit in cali. im sure there are some pretty hefty fines for posessing it. you must have it & the JD tho to defeat the orange monster. he will be comming your way if he`s not in town already. count on it.

lol RP and acetone dont produce anything when they come in contact. the only thing RP produces that is a gas is hydriotic acid and only when it comes into contact with I2 crystals and heat is applied. turn the heat off and leave it set a bit and the gas go`s back to solution untill heat is again applied.

hmmm.. well when swim was mixing all his strikers in a cup of acetone and covered the top with saran wrap and shook it, some kind of pressure built up and busted open the top. And then when swim put the shit into a closed container and shook, the top blew off... so *something* was building up in there, haha

Most solvents will build up pressure when you enclose them and shake them-even water will do that. Swim recommends that you put your 'tone in a GLASS jar instead of a cup, and cover with a lid instead of saran wrap. Swim knows that 'tone dissolves many plastics and rubbers, but doesn't know about saran wrap.

Swim found the JD at h--by l--by, with the paint supplies. Little bottle about 2" tall, Artist's Oil Medium Japan Drier on the label. Check arts and craft section if unable to locate elsewhere.

acetone evaporates at a very fast rate and if the acetone is cooler than the container you put it with the MB strikers it will increase the rate at which it vaporizes, evaporated acetone vapor in a closed container will produce pressure

yeah, swim is stupid for not thinking about the added vapor pressure of the acetone...

live and learn ;-)

and what the hell is wrong with my town? when swim went looking for JD, no one had even heard of it. Just cobalt drier for oil paintings... grrrr. swim had to order THAT online too, haha. he likes to paint.
