Default Copper (Still) Reflux condenser

Ok,

So I'm a little clumbsy and glass and me don't seem to get along too well I've been wondering if I can build a reflux condenser using copper pipe and fittings etc. Will the copper taint the reaction/end product?

Any help

if your talking about using a copper condenser in a RP/I2 rxn the answer is no. hydriotic acid eats metals.

If you're a little clumsy, maybe you shouldn't be fooling around with dangerous things!

Thats a complete no no!

Im pretty sure that both polar and non-polar solvants will disolve PVC which will contaminate your end product so remember...

Solvents + PVC = very bad!!!

I have read somewhere where impure 'end use" solvents(eg. toluene) may be responsible for a product that goes totally oily in plastic after just a short time, and doesnt recrystalize under normal conditions of temp., etc. This is from a rpi method op. Excuse my obvious lack of knowledge on the guts of the subject, I'm just asking for a friend (he does the bomb, consistently...but methodology falls into the "mad genius" category...wild..

The only thing you can use with acids is glass, you can use a copper reflux still with solvents and such. Kirby, what kinds of solvents don't go with copper?
