Seems over the last few months I have noticed my damn dope bead up in my pipe. Like raindrops bead off of a freshly waxed car. I am positively sure no carnuba is present in finished base. The beans used contain no waxes, carnuba or any other. Base is also always hit with "tone" anyway. Seems some batchs of finish do it and some dont. I have noticed if it is "beading", if you roll the pipe so the dope runs onto "fog" it will spread out, as it should, and leg up. The "beading" dilemma makes the shit a pain in the ass to smoke. Is it a question of too much heat, in that using a torch lighter increases chances of this happening over using a bic lighter? Could it be something from the RP? Been using the same RP for years . Its not matchbook or fussee shit either. This doesnt seem to bother anyone else but I cannot stand it. I am extremely meticulous about impurities of any sort exposed to any part or process involved, but I am at a loss. Any feed back, positive or negative is welcome. If more info is needed would be glad to provide as this "beading" problem has gotten personal.......

really difficult subject to advise on as we all have our own smoking idiosyncrasies that make us percieve the same phenomena different ways..

i think beading comes from impurities in the meth,

if you overheat clean meth,,it just burns to black,,the overproduction of smoke stains the bowl with a smokable product..

it has nothing to do with your precursors.

its a cleaning prob...

you didnt tell us what method you clean with.

have you had a change pf pills..

change of solvents,etc etc...

What I meant by saying the dope legged when rolled to the foggy part of the pipe was that when compared to a clean glass surface, ie. just cleaned your pipe. the dope that beaded on clean glass legged on fog. As far as clean dope turning black from too much heat.......if it turns black it isnt clean. Clean is when you drop a ball in the pipe boof it with a torch and when the ball is gone there in nothing left in the pipe but fog. No tracks or whatever you want to classify them as, of any kind. Same beans, same R, same blk. as always. Just got me stumped.

LEt me ask you this. IF you are using lab grade R.P. as it sounds as tough you are, are you re-using the R.P. for your Rxns?And if so what method is used to clean it up for next round?!

I'm really curious kirby as to why your crystal turns to black if overheated?!

I have to agree with chiselwac on this one in respects to cean-meth when smoked leaves almost none if any at all residue.

I find very few smokers who overheat their pipes simply because thats their bread & butter. if i smoke mine slowly,,

it burns to no residue...

but in a hurry,

where i consume a cubic metre of gas in 2 secs,

it scorches,

and the scorched meth is black,

has nothing to do with impurities,

has everything to do with my impatience...

As far a breaking down the beans..... throw them in a coffee bean grinder, grind 'em up, tranfer to a glass jar, add methanol, and from force of habit throw the jar in the freezer. Usually leave jar in freezer a couple of hours. When jar is pulled from the freezer the methanol is crystal clear. Siphon methanol off of buffer through 3, 4, or 5(usually how ever many happen to be stuck together) filters. Vap filtered methanol off in a visionware bowl in microwave. Always hit base with "tone" before removing from bowl. As far as my RP... Fortunatley I have the luxury of supply. Very seldom use same r three times. If I am to reuse rp I let it soak in DH2O a couple of days. After DH2O is poured off I give it a good shot of "tone" for a final rinse and also helps to aid drying process. You know we all do things a little different than the next guy. But I myself have always done things one way with as little variation as possible. Sometimes variation is beyond my control, but for the most part I always do everything the same way. Then one day the shit beaded up in the pipe. Its a bitch trying to boof when your chasing a bunch of spots in your damn pipe. There has got to be something I am overlooking. Why some batches are "beaders" and some are fine....
