2 questions about methcat
methcat synth questions.
1) to adjust the ph, is it ok to use potassium hydroxide (the stuff used to adjust ph balance in fish tanks)
2) is it ok to dry the methcat freebase in a plastic bowl in the microwave?
thanks

Re: 2 questions about methcat
cant answer the first question,
but dont ever use plastic bowls for anything,
pyrex bowls at a minimum,
even what you can use plastic bowls for, doesnt matter,,
its a bad habit,,
lose it

Re: 2 questions about methcat
Thanks, I'll do that,
But what about the microwave...
do you think it will explode the solution?
I would heat/evaporate it using 30 second microwave bursts.

Re: 2 questions about methcat
you can use the microwave,
but some solvents dissolve,
some plastic bowls,,
trust me,
its not a professional look holding a dissolving bowl...

Re: 2 questions about methcat
1)The KOH should work just fine for bringing the pH level up.
2) Use glass not plastic. pyrex should definitely be used.
3) Microwaves tend to make liquids and the such splatter. kind of messy and wasteful, if you ask me, even in short bursts on low temps. use an electric hot plate and/or hair dryer for best results.

sounds good,
hey, if the solution starts to boil, will that ruin the product?
should I only heat to pre-boiling temperatures?
or I could just use the blowdryer, but man, that would take forever
thanks for the replies

Re: 2 questions about methcat
Don't let it get past 80c(175f), b careful with evap, don't want it 2 cook, 70c-75c or 160f-165f should b good, but very, very slow should the temp get there and never above. But probly should stick with like u said pre-boil temps until u gain experience. Patience is a golden virtue!
