extended release sudafed
While at the grocery store I noticed Sudafed has extended release tablets that have 240mg psuedoephedrine HCI in them. Since the p-fed is still a HCI, I'm assuming that the extended release occurs due to inactives in the tabs. Would these be any more or less difficult to clean up than regular release tabs? Most importantly would they even be functional?

Re: extended release sudafed
Well the extended release are all whether they're 120's or 240's packed to the gills with gakk that can discourage the novice chemist.
Rgular release tabs are less of a hassle.
But yes. They would still work provided you sorted out the antogonists or were doing a birch with annie and Li.
Plus Brand name pseudo like these being from Sudafed are expensive if one is on a round-up of pseudo.
Best bet for those that care is Wal-Mart equates Anti-Hist-tabs.
48-60's at $2.98 per box. That's 2.88g's of gross pseudo.
But to each their own.

Re: extended release sudafed
Thanks for the advice. You got me curious when mentioning antagonists being in the tabs. What would these antagonists be?

Re: extended release sudafed
Surfacants include----> polyoxyl 40 stearate, sorbitan esters of fatty acid, polyoxyethylene hydrogenated castor oil, polysorbate, glyceryl monostearate, and sodium monododecyl sulfate.
Binding agents include---> acacia, sodium alginate, carboxyvinyl polymers, gelatin, dextrin, pectin, sodium polyacrylate, pullulan, methylcellulose, hydroxypropylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, and macrogol.
Examples of lubricants include---> magnesium stearate, calcium stearate, stearic acid, talc, sucrose fatty acid esters, polyethylene glycol, and hydrogenated oils.
The amounts of the pharmaceutically active ingredients vary depending on their properties. The amounts are 1-70% by weight, preferably 1-50% by weight, more preferably 1-30% by weight, of the solid contents.
Antogonists---->polyethylene glycol---->methylcellulose---> hydroxypropylcellulose---> hydroxypropylmethylcellulose--->sodium alginate---> carboxyvinyl polymers---> polysorbate---> glyceryl monostearate---> and sodium monododecyl sulfate.
And there is more. These are the more common ones.

Re: extended release sudafed
With the time release 120s & 240s there is a outer layer on them. If crushed and run through a very fine sieve it is like fine slivers of plastic.
Swim learned this the hard costly way.
The 120's also come in a generic. If the store carries them they well we right next to the 120's name brand, and in a blue and white box. Swim knows DG, Wallies and WalG. carry them also some pharmacies and grocery stores. Swim has never seen the 240s in generic.

Re: extended release sudafed
240's are my favorite, all you need to do is just soak 'em in atone (uncrushed)for 'bout 5-10m then you can peel off the "skins" w/your fingers(rub'em in between yr indexfngr/thumb). Then crush them lightly do not pulverize, because you wanna seperate the pseudo which will be in a fine powder anyways from the shell-like crap that will also be in there.
You can seperate by of two ways, use a mesh(150-200) to filter -just take the dry broken up pill mass pour it through a couple of times, keep the stuff that falls right through & toss out the shell-like crap on top- ,or you can put it the mass in your favorite gold pan and dry pan it- the top stuff goes, while the bottom powder stays just like gold.
