Re: ingot of palladium
Its a newish chem process but not to be ignored its probably got the most potental.
You will find it on www.? (http://www.?) google?!
What Swim would do is get some titainium expanded mesh, Not normal interlaced mesh.
Most electroplaters use it for the baskets that hold the nickle or chrome ingots in the tank solution.
Hammer it flat then clean it and electroplate it with palladium.
You maybe able to buy it this way anyway.
Swim gets the impression that it will only have to be brought once, it won't 'wear' away.
Oh its about US$500 a troy ounce. Of course you only need a little tiny bit, with the most surface area. Hence the titainium exp mesh.
Goodluck on pushing the boundrys.

Re: ingot of palladium
Well actually kiwi its $200 per troy ounce, but an ingot is not a troy ounceby a longshot!!! lol!!
I'm sure you could locate palladium gofastjack at a precious/semi-precious metals dealer.
Unless you could locate it from an industrial supplier who is a vendor in the like.
I believe an ingot of gold weighs 70 pounds.
At any rate, they are heavy and usually for the mines to be able to packeage their ores in a compressed and easily controlled warehousing fashion.
Then either the ingots go to safe-deposit boxes/government vaults/or the processors of the metals at hand.
And when you compare what an ounce of gold costs compared to what an ounce of crystal costs in Australia, you can or least I can see the insanity of paying ten-fold the price for a substance easily produced and ten-fold the asking price!!!
Its like a liscense to print money!!! In regards to cooking crystal in Oz.<----totally of topic I know!

Re: ingot of palladium
Don't think so sorry. Swim had a look on google and can't find quickly a place to get it.
The ingot thing, I think you mean a 'ingot' as a lump of it. Not so much the weight or cost, but a bit about an oz size or half the size of a credit card, same thickness.
Ok, a troy ounce ( used for fine metals) is more than the 28.4 gm ounce used generally for weighing stuff.
A Ounce is different from a druggists Ounce, which is different from a troy ounce.
This has probably caused a few arguements.
Q. Whats heaver, a ounce of feathers or a ounce of gold? A, ounce of gold.
You know those 'jet lighters' some of them have a wire in the top that glows red hot when its lit.
This wire is coated with palladium (or platinium).
If you use the lighter, then stop it, while the wires still hot, push the button to let gas back out, the wire starts to glow again with no flame.
This is the butane gas being oxidised by the palladium, its a catalyst.
Looking on google I didn't find a place to get it. But it will be able to be got, its not like watched or anything.
I got the price wrong,something to do with kiwi currency. US$ 200, Kiwi$ 500.
I think it may be used in thermocouples.
(tempature sensors)
Good luck.

Re: ingot of palladium
Hey Kirby, The palladium is used on the Electrolytic Hydrogenation of Ephedrine /Or Phenylpropanol.
What it means is there a way of making speed from ephedrine using electricity.
There is also a way of making ephedrine from phenylpropanol ( I thinks that this is right, the phenyl- to ephedrine bit).And/or from other things too, sounds like phenylamine etc.
Dont want to give away too much, but Swims books arn't around right now, so spelling may be wrong.
.
The other day you asked whats a Iodination (sp?) Swim was thinking about something somebody said a while ago.
It was about the Red phos+iodine method, but instead of doing that to ephedrine, it would be done (iodination) to a alcohol, say meths, then if ephedrine was put in to the alcohol the Iodine would launch itself onto the ephedrine, making meth.
.
The thing about arse/ass.
I read in a old Stanley Tobin book (Tobin in paradise) it had arse spelt as arse.
I have a feeling its got some thing about the way OZ'ys & Kiwis roll their 'RRRs'. And how seppos have that 'solid block of coke stuck up their nose' way of talking.
And how they call a Bumbag a Fanny pack.
