Bunsen burner help
Ok, I need to ask if my idea will work properly. I , as mostly everyone, own a gas stove/oven in my house. Everyone know that the stove has (normally) 4 ranges. The thing is I can lift the burners off my stove and what I am left with is four little knobs of metal that spit out gas for the burners to use.
Can I put latex tubing on one of these metal gas knobs and put the other end to my bunsen burner and use my actual stove as the gas source for my bunsen burner, It has control knobs and such to let more or less gas out. The thing i am worried about is when i light the burner will the flame travel back down the tube and blow up my stove or will the lighter just light the burner and my idea will work. Please help out as I don't want my house to blow up, the tubing is latex by the way.
One more thing, How do YOU light your bunsen burner? From the bottom or tip-top? Just wondering how other people do it.

Re: Bunsen burner help
sit has the right idea...I don't think the gas will travel back down the tube either. Good connections are essential.

Re: Bunsen burner help
yeah itl work
your going to have to check pipe temperature though,,it may melt
connections should be tightened by using a reducable stainless steel o-ring,,the one where you reduce the diameter by using a scewdriver..
light it from the top..
something makes me feel you dont know what your doing..
you aint going to heat solvents with said bunsen burner are you

Re: Bunsen burner help
Uh.. Why bother doing that with your cooker?
Just get a butane cylinder, a regulator and a tube then put it together. It's simple.
You're planning on using a bunsen and you dont even know how to light it? Did you not do BASIC chemistry in school?
You turn the gas on, the gas will be coming out of the end of the bunsen, and you light that with either a sparker or a match by placing it nearest the hole.
Do NOT light it through the air hole on the side. When it is open it is a nice, clean blue flame. This is a lot hotter than when it is closed. Don't even bother using it closed because the yellow flame blows everywhere and will dirty whatever you are heating up.

EDIT: Gas taps for things like that arent very expensive either. Hooking that up to your cooker just seems unncessarily awkward.
