Re: microwave
I know they can be used to evaporate solvents..Switrd usually blasts 'em in short 25 second bursts. I'm not sure about boiling it. The hive has got some info about microwaves and their place in a lab. I'm not sure what the threads are called, but a quick search should give you some more insight. I believe Rainman mentioned something to me along those lines recently. He had nothing but good things to say about 'em though. Like I said...check first!!

Re: microwave
thx guys.
as for the metal container, that's a given.
Not too sure the boiling point tho, so I'll just keep an eye on it. I have no hotplate, just the stovetop (for now) and pyrex dish says right on it, no stovetop.
here goes nuthin!!

Re: microwave
If you are going to use the stove top, at least put a metal sheet over it so it will at least act like a hotplate and hide the naked flame.
If the pyrex dish says "No Stovetop" then it is there for a reason, it will probably crack.

Re: microwave
no no no no, lol
Stovetop is electric.
Bunsen burner? Who said anything about flame? I was talking about a MICROWAVE OVEN!
So, Kirby, am I to understand in the land down under, your microwaves run on firepower? Never thought you guys were in the dark ages.
No flame, Tone boiled fine in the Micro. 25 second bursts. Worked out fine. Awaiting the crystal forest in the freezer now.
E will be clean, and sparkle from what I understand.
I'm trying this all at a SLOW pace guys, wouldn't want to screw things up you know?
Besides, I have only limited times this can all be done, so I have no choice but to use patience!
As for the metal on the stovetop, you think a cookie sheet or a metal pie pan would worrk? Might come in handy for a heated evap at a later date and time...

Re: microwave
I wouldn't recommend that you use your stove, even if it's electric, because one spark is all it takes, and KABOOM! Swim found a used hotplate for $30.

Re: microwave
Good point. Hmmm. I guess I'll just have to wait to see what Santa brings me, lol.
In the meantime, the Crystal forest is taking it's time, but growing NICELY in the Deep Freeze of Winter. (Just peeked. I am smiling, lol)

Ok. First off, smoking Eph tastes like shit. No skin crawlies, but only took 2 strong hits, and a third weak ass.
Second, Leaves a black residue I do not like.
Third, allow me to re-phrase REM:

Re: microwave
If your ole lady has one of those pancake griddles, the teflon coated ones, they work well too, and the temps on the dial are fairly accurate

Re: microwave
Nope. Ol lady has NO kitchen apliances, other than an electric can opener. I do all the cooking in MY house! (Not too fond of the smell of burned food)
Was thinking of getting one of those, but wanted to wait till after x-mas.
The closest thing I have is a sandwich press, and an ancient waffle iron.
The press doesn't get that hot, and the waffle iron? Sketchy at best, and only works with the lid closed, lol.
Will be looking into a hot plate REAL soon!
Thanks for the info Sam! (And everyone else)
I'll be closing/deleting this post by Monday, to save space on the servers.
Merry Christmas everybody!!!

Re: microwave
sam-63...Switrd was also thinking about something along those lines. What is the maximum temp that those pancake deals goes up to? It would fit in a lot better with the surroundings in Switrd's apartment.
