Who has attempted the agent lemon extraction of DXM? Has this method worked? I have acquired most of the correct chems to do this simple experiment and was wondering if it has worked for you. Theres no way to really see if you got the DXM out without having someone drink your agent lemon, eh?

-Is it a good idea to get the DXM powder out by letting the Naptha evaporate off?

-If the product is not taken right away... say, you make it and store it for a day... a week... will DXM turn to DXO?

Right now I am evapping some naptha that should have DXM in it.

I did a test run earlier with about 25ml Syrup, 25ml Ammonia, 10ml Naptha. I dried the Naptha in the bottom of a glass jar and noticed very light, somewhat chunky crystal formations - they smelled like cough syrup.

This current test will be more conclusive, but please tell me of your tests!!!

Can't you also extract the DXM by gassing it with HCl gad and that wolud form DXM hydrochloride?

I doubt that method.

1. because DXMHCl is dissolvable in water, the gassing it would be in hopes that it would precipitate out (which it would not)

2. because in cough syrup, it begins DXMHBr and I have doubts that the HCl would replace the HBr... doesn't seem like theres any obvious reason why it would - HCl is a stronger acid than HBr though...

The Agent lemon method is much simpler than getting and handling HCl gas anyway, so lets do some trials and get an easy and purely liquid method right.

I just read in the DXM FAQ that DXM left in acid will turn to DXO.

Can anyone confirm this? Does it have to be a harsh acid: HCl, Hbr? Or can it be a ligh acid: Citric acid?

Another place it said DXM will not turn to DXO in the presence of HCl or citric acid. That was on erowid.

Has anyone here ever tried the Agent Lemon extraction? Any success? Failure? Any other extraction of DXM?
