Well, i ' d like to notice that the drug making chemistry bases upon a standard molecule. This is caffeine!

It is widely used as a base in many drugs... Well i'm searching a good and easy way (and somehow cheap!)to purify caffeine extracted from coffe seeds by chloroform. It has to be highly purified!!!

Any ideas?

Not a bad idea, a short correspondence course.

Extract caffeine from coffee.

To do it, then describe how it went and the results as well. Acquiring the tools, putting it togeather, getting results.

An accomplishment.

coffee is too complicated. i "made" some pure caffeine over the summer. all it involved was a spoon, a plate, a coffee mug full of hot water, and some coffee filters.

go to dollar tree, buy caffeine pills. crush, dissolve in hot water, filter, boil filtrate down and let remaining water evaporate. very simple, and i got about 10 grams of caffeine for $2.17(stupid fucking 8.25% sales tax).

of course, i'm sure i lost some and it probably wasnt more than 95% pure.

The only thing I could think of using pure caffeine for is to cut my heroin.

extraction of caffeine from tea (however probably cheaper to buy)

-extract with boiling water first

-rid impurities with calcium salts (calcium carbonate)

-do multiple extractions with dichloromethane

-distill off the solvents (crude product)

-dissolve in acetone by heating

-allow to cool and vacuum filter

should be pretty pure, just check melting point if you have a melt-temp or some sort of apparatus for purity
