flooded RXN reclamation question
SWIM is gonna boil off the excess H2O from a flooded synth. the rxn was flooded at the very begining of the initial reaction bcause of a rp fire and a broken flask. SWIM knows to boil off till he smells the HI strongly, right? SWIM has 250ml in there now. how many ml.s of H2O should there b bfore SWIM reattaches the condenser?(10ml.s or so?) (5.5gm. pseudo, prob. less bcause of rp fire, how much?)
now, bcause the initial reaction really didn't complete, isn't something fairly violent gonna happen at some point? SWIM should supervise evey moment of the boil down, right? there's gonna b a secondary reaction at completion of the synth too, right? at what point?
how much, if any, I2 or RP should SWIM add to the retry? (added too much I2 initially)
SWIM is hoping to salvage at least a little bit from his failure.

Re: flooded RXN reclamation question
I'm really curious about something. Were you following a recipe, or did you just make up your own? I'm not trying to diss you, I was just wondering where you got some of your information.

Re: flooded RXN reclamation question
well, kman, SWIM sorta amalgamated a few: pseudo ext. was Video Editors "Straight to Bee (base)". and rxn recipe was mostly from one very detailed account from someone who didn't take credit (SWIM believes he got it off Rhodium). and yes, SWIM now knows that as a newb he should not overly complicate things by mixing techniques. too late now.
now that i satisfied your curiosity, hows about addressing my dilemma, oh, brother in meth.

Re: flooded RXN reclamation question
I would boil down to where it's damn near dry(3-4ml).
Yes supervise the whole Mamma-Jamma.
I would for shis and grins add an aditional one gram to one and a half grams of red phosphorus.
Perhaps an additonal one gram of iodine crystals.
You won't need to add the condensor until it's time to rock & roll.
Basically once you have boiled down the excess water, and add your additonal precusors, just kick it back-up and watch for the mudslide.
It's quite all right to have screwed-up on your first fifteen Rxns. Almost all of the Pros did.
And I would commend you on your choice of using pseudo freebase as it gives some fuckin' kick-ass sparks and fireworks in regards to the meth produced.
Just ask Acidmelt on that one!!!
Jam.

Re: flooded RXN reclamation question
Jam to the rescue! thanx dood! espec. thanx for the sympathy, SWIM was gettin a little discouraged there!
am i to understand from your reply that the M produced from a RXN using pseudo freebase is stronger and/or more intense than when from pseudo Hcl? if so, cool deal; SWIM chose the base method bcause it uses readily available solvents and bcause there is no need to recrystalize twice or even once, also,it produces a very clean prod., or so it's said. also, it's more reactive, which is usually a good thing.
thanx again for the detailed solution, Jam, keep on keepin' on!

Re: flooded RXN reclamation question
arrgh! too much friggin' H2O!
SWIM is just gonna try to recover the pseudo and the rp through a normal meth work-up/ clean-up; otherwise it'll take days to boil off all that H2O.

Re: flooded RXN reclamation question
i think your RP fire could b attributed to your choice of freebase...
using freebase in a rxn produces a more violent reaction; you need to use an ice bath to do a freebase reaction to prevent something like an RP fire and consequently flask breakage
