Kirby or any other aussie
check out this link
http://www.rhodium.ws/chemistry/pseudo.xtract.waterless.html
now my question .. is it possible to replace the Xylene in step 6 with shelite?
ive heard you talk about shelite quite alot kirby as your prefered choice of solvent to use for squirting the pseudo into the "blue" lagoon (gas+sodium metal)
reply would be cool
cheers

I checked Bunning's but couldn't find it there. I'm in Brissi. Is it only that one store, or do any other Bunning's have it??

Re: Kirby or any other aussie
Must admit Fred i haven't seen it at Bunnings doesn't mean they don't sell it ...however you can find 100% acetone there .. i haven't checked all bunnings stores out.
If you are after Xylene go to luxury paints and buy a 4 Ltr can of thier medium thinners ..
But if you want a one stop shop go to Johns Paint Supplies north side of the river Ph: 38901482
He's got every fuckin thing under the sun xylene MEK iso and if you can come up with a good excuse if he ain't got it, he will probably get it for you .... but you may have to buy 20 ltrs thats the only hitch .. hes a good bloke too..
P.S. its probably best to just buy one thing at a time .. a young fellow like yourself cleaning out his shelves might arouse a bit of suspicion but i don't think he is too clued up on the solvents/making things idea, but i could be wrong. Just to save you messin' around i'd call first just to make sure he has what you want before going down there.

Re: Kirby or any other aussie
Hmmm. Shelite (spelling?) Swim thinks this is Petrolium Ether aka as Mobil Pegasol 1516 or Pegasol AA, Hexane, Ligroin, Colmans fluid & something else.
Its close to Zippo lighter fluid.
Check out cleaning supply places its often sold by the litre, or 4L. Same as IPA,Acetone,MEK. Swim got some DCM, got it home ,checked label, turns out its Methylene Chloride, Are they the same? Whats its use, except paint stripper.

Re: Kirby or any other aussie
Thanks Spook, I grabbed 4L of Acetone from Bunning's. I am after Toluene, and Isopropyl Alcohol. I'll be sure to check out that place you recommended though. Can you give me the addy, or should I just look it up??
You can also get Xylene from Bunning's.

Re: Kirby or any other aussie
Fred ... the place i mentioned has isopropanol aka isopropyl alcohol, last time i spoke to them they didn't carry toluene because they don't sell very much of it, it's not that popular, i think because there are suspicions that it is a carcinogen, as a result it will be increasingly harder to get .. a good substutute for toluene is xylene in most situations. Off the top of my head i don't know the addy, its in the phone book .. but i gave you the phone number, give em a call ..
I didn't see the xylene at bunnings ,..thanks for that !!

Re: Kirby or any other aussie
kirb, i know we have had "wanker" defenition classes(which i thank you for, cause wanker can come in real useful in several posting applications)
but now they have thrown me another "football bat"......
Kirb, may i now know what the hell a "bloke" is? so i may further increase my quest to become "part-austrailian"
i promise to use it only in a positive manner,.......really....i promise
heehehehehehe-----(sneaky grin)eheheh

Re: Kirby or any other aussie
bloke n. pron. "blowk" (English); "bloke" (the rest of us). The closest American equivalent is guy, and it is pretty close. A bloke is a joe public, a random punter - any old guy off the street. Where it differs from guy is that it can't apply to your friends. You can't walk up to a group of your mates and say "Hi blokes, what's up?", as they'd all peer at you as if you'd been reading some strange cross-channel dictionary. The most common usage of the word bloke is almost definitely in the phrase "some bloke in the pub".
This is a resonable definition.

well, i got scolded for this a little bit, by a austrailian(who will remain nameless humhum hummmmmm K-sme- heehe)
it seems that i have used the word wanker in the wrong form, so im going to clear this up real quick before kirby gets here and i dont have a wanker anymore hehehee
it seems that a wanker is a inatimate object: ie: you can kick a wanker in the nuts but you cant kick a wanker in the wanker, i tried to dissagree,(cause ive been kickin wankers around here for awhile now)but she just wouldnt have it...... so for the good of the show, i stand corrected, for as we all know........ a wanker is a wanker is a wanker and even though i understand that a wanker can be kicked, she does not see it that way, so lets refresh what ive learned tonight, a wanker can be kicked, but at the same time a wanker can not be kicked.......so no kickin wankers..untill a wanker kicks you first, then that bloke might deserve a swift kickin in the wanker..............eheheheheheeheheeheh

Re: Kirby or any other aussie
Was in a auto parts store once getting a pressure hone, When this chick comes in, shuffels around looking at the displays etc. Quickly skopes out the assistants & goes up to the youngest "excuse me, but my boyfriend would like some I-so-pro-pil-alk-o-hell to put inhis gastank toget ridof thewater. please."
Nearly pissed myself.
The assistants didn't know what it was.
I knew that they had stopped selling it a year ago.
But I did know where else it could be got, so I sent her there with the instruction to bring a Plastic solvent container & that she wanted it REFILLED.

Re: Kirby or any other aussie
Oh fuk, arr oh yeh, IPA is used to mix water with petrol to get rid of H2O in the bottom of the gas tank.
Its used to clean cutting fluid off Aluiminium before its welded or Anodised.
And in the metal casting industry to Dry out the moisture from the sand surface before pouring molten metal in ( won't explode like water does.)
