carbon in pseudo
SWIM has some pseudo freebase but it's sorta greyish. SWIM believes this is due to some activated carbon contaminating it. will the carbon fuck up a RXN, or would it just serve as a decolorizing agent? this is SWIM's last question bfor proceding w/ the synth and SWIM is chompin' at the bit to begin so, a timely reply would b greatly welcome.

Re: carbon in pseudo
If you followed your extraction procedure correctly, then you should've been able to saparate the activated carbon from the pseudo, but, since you didn't post what you did, it's hard to speculate. I think that some of the gakk in the pills can give the pseudo different, colors. I'm wondering if an acetone rinse might remove the carbon, but I don't know for sure. If you have anything in there that isn't pseudo, you should remove it. Trust me on this.

Re: carbon in pseudo
SWIM followed Video Editor's "straight to bee (base)", (which uses, among other things activated carbon)that SWIM found on Rhodium. VE claims that it produces very clean pseudo, and SWIM followed the steps pretty well but, some of the pulls were whiter than others. SWIM is pretty sure the greyness is from the carbon and not anything else. will the carbon bite SWIM's RXN in the ass? if so should SWIM redisolve the pseudo base in fresh NP and wash w/ 20% RDL, and then dH2O? or is SWIM getting anal about this?

Re: carbon in pseudo
I'm guessing that you might've left your pseudo in a little too long. Swim's never had anything but sparkly white pretties(after the first attempts), and is suspicious of that gray color. If you have the lovely pinwheel crystals after it dries, then maybe it's ok. If your crystals are mutated, then maybe you should do another boil. I hope you figure it out. Swim doesn't do solvent boiling, and has dreamt of excellent success without it.

Re: carbon in pseudo
thanx kman. SWIM's pseudo base was pinwheely, but greyish. if it is carbon(couldn't b too much) will it screw his synth? what do u think about washing the base in np w/ dH2O? btw, what extraction do u employ?

Hey a_a,
Uh, weeelll Swif went the same route and ended up with the same problem - slightly grey tinted pseudo freebase. Just wondering what swia_a's outcome was and if he figured out the cause. Swif's thinking some of the fine carbon dust got through the TP filter (didn't use Charmin, dammit, cuz he thought his brand was good enough ). Thanks for any info.

Re: carbon in pseudo
Went and checked results from freezer - had nice crystalized ephedrine, but yield was only 4.4g from primary extraction ( from 5 boxes of 120's - ugh). On secondary extraction managed to pull another 1.2g BUT below the crystals was a white coating that, when dry, was hard to scrap off and ended as powder.
My Q is, is this also ephedrine or something else (gakk?)?
