Electrolysis questions(urgent)
I got a 6v battery charger at Kmart for $20 and I started electrolysising KCl about 1 hour ago and I see about 1oz worth of crystals on the bottom. So this is the KCl03, right?
As soon as I turned it on, it looked alittle like one of those things that you shake and snowflakes come down.
But should I be venting this? Will the chlorine gas pressurize in the bottle?
The holt melt glue melted off at the anode, so there is only alittle ventilation.

Re: Electrolysis questions(urgent)
Yes this is the chlorate, and you should vent it not because of the chlorine but because of the flammable hydrogen.

Re: Electrolysis questions(urgent)
Thanks for the advice. It stopped producing snowflakes/crystals about after an hour and I used about 400ml of electrolyte.
Would it be bad if I used a taller jar with the anode and cathode only reaching about 1/3 of the way down? That would give me more electroyte and more space to pile the crystals.

Re: Electrolysis questions(urgent)
Oh, and would a 6 amp battery charger compare to anything in energy usage, like a tv, computer, ect? I want to keep the budget on electricity low.

Re: Electrolysis questions(urgent)
6 amps aint shit you could run that thing 24/7 and it would run you maybe 10 dollars a month. one thing SWIM has noticed over the years is that clandestine chemists are the cheapest tightest people to ever breath oxygen. SWIM thinks that some of you guys are so tight you squeek when you walk. like alwaystired last month, spent all that time and effort on getting his reagents clean and then took his goods that would have potentialy returned 1500 dollars or more in goods and dumped it all in a flask he bought at a yard sale for 25 cents. a fuckin yard sale can you believe that. well of course the flask cracked before he made two steps away from the oilbath. crazy shit man. SWIM calls this the "step over a dollar pick up a dime syndrome" lol not doggin ya tired but damn man get a grip lol you know your my long lost brother from another mother.

Re: Electrolysis questions(urgent)
Oh yeah, I found that it's only 36 watts. Thats almost as low as an alarm clock.
I found out that the stuff I made was not chlorate. My electrolyte was not chilled before filtering, so the stuff I saw was just sodium chloride precipitating.
It did'nt work when dried, so I tried to purify it, and it stayed a liquid instead of recrystalizing.
For a second there I thought it was a easy process. I also tried it vented, and it made a noise this time and bubbled all over the lid. I need to make a better cell with a hose leading outside so that I can operate the cell without chlorine and hydrogen gas filling the room.
