Here's the question: Is there a way to use simple room temperature, no heat whatsoever (Let's just say there's no electricity where my friend wants to try this) to do what needs to be done? Time is NOT a rush, but patience is the virtue here.

Assuming, of course, all precursors are clean, and ready to go, can a cold rxn happen? Thinking of either a lavalamp (If I can convince the other half that she doesn't need it, and it would make a keen gift) or else a Wine Bottle (flat bottomed of course, clean as well) and a baloon on the top.

Like I said, time's not of the essence. In other words, can my friend let it all sit in the dark in a storage hut outside for a week or so, and will everyone play nice?

Oh, and as for the post rxn workup, same thing. Start to finish, no heat. Is it possible? (He said he CAN use the freezer though, if need be for recrystal)

IF this can not be done, a simple no will do, lol. If it can be done, I'd like to hear from someone that has actually had a successful vision here.

Go over to rhodium's. There is a complete write up on this theoretical rxn. In theory it should work....I don't know personaly though.

thanks for the link! Pictures say a thousand words! LOTS of info there and here as well... I agree, heat works, but I was just wondering a way for my friend to "fly under the radar" of his other half. They work the same hours, and are always together on the weekends.

Even over at The Hive when they talk about cold rxn's, they mean temp's of about 100C, as opposed to the normal 150C.

Are you doing a dry p/p, or a long wet reflux?
