Default Quokka soccer

this aint got shit to do with lab tips but i just had to post it

a quokka is a dwarf kangaroo,,max is about 18inches high,,identical to the big fellows,,just a dwarf...

they live on the offshore islands of west australia,,mainly rottnest island..

this island is used by 17yr old school leavers as a weeks holiday venue in there final year..

they have a game called quokka soccer..

these quokkas are so tame its ridiculous..

one young man kneels in front of the goal posts and begins to feed one of the quokkas,,

the other young man lines up the quokka like they do for a field goal,,

runs in and boots the quokka through the goal posts

quokka soccer

THE State Government has banned clubbing sick and injured Rottnest Island quokkas to death as a form of euthanasia and will fit rangers' vehicles with carbon dioxide gas units to do the job.

Tourism Minister Bob Kucera yesterday outlined a five-point plan for the humane and sustainable management of island quokkas.

The Government was forced to act after revelations in The West Australian that island rangers were clubbing injured and sick quokkas to death rather than sending them to a mainland sanctuary.

Mr Kucera said the new plan was developed in a meeting yesterday with animal and wildlife experts. It includes:

The use of carbon dioxide to euthanase dying quokkas. Mobile carbon dioxide units will be fitted to rangers' vehicles for use on isolated parts of the island.

Further training in wildlife care for Rottnest rangers.

Building a wildlife station on the island for sick and injured quokkas and other wildlife.

The Rottnest Island Authority to review guidelines for triage and management of sick and injured quokkas with animal welfare experts.

The authority to look at new education campaigns to get visitors to stop harming quokkas.

Mr Kucera told the Legislative Assembly yesterday experts agreed carbon dioxide was the most humane way to euthanase quokkas.

The Rottnest Island Foundation Conservation Trust would also play a stronger role in ensuring the future wellbeing of the animals.

Qualified veterinary nurse and CALM- contracted wildlife educator Liz Appelt said the package appeared to be a good start. But she was still concerned the quokkas would not be getting the best treatment.

Mrs Appelt, who voluntarily treated 30 injured, orphaned or sick quokkas which were sent to her at the Chidlow Marsupial Hospital from Rottnest, said it was essential for the animals to be cared for in the new wildlife station by full-time and highly-qualified animal welfare staff.

"Obviously people are starting to realise these animals do deserve better than they were getting," Mrs Appelt said.

RSPCA spokeswoman Kelly Oversby said the use of carbon dioxide was best in a tough situation.

Expert advice had shown her that previous preference for lethal injections was not the best option and the mobile units also offered less risk to operators.

She said the plan would benefit quokkas on the island and she hoped the RSPCA would be involved in tailoring further education processes.

I'm in no way an animal lover, but that sounds mean as hell! At least in Texas we give the bull a chance...although the downside to that has been many of horn up clowns asses...Back to the point, whats the farthest you have ever kicked quokka kirby??

and even though this is no excuse..

its hard for the rangers not to club the little fuckers..

when dampier arrived in 1619 his men counted 2 colonies of between 60 and 70 quokkas each on rottnest

now there 11 thousand of the soccer ball sized marsupials

the island could easily suffer a reduction of 10500 quokkas

there as inquisitive as raccoons

have no fear

and are on the vermin list

wicked

that was one of suttleilas recipes

jam

i see yourve listed the indian ocean as your home

australia is such an old eroded land that our soil has leached into the oceans over 100s of millions of years

being a limestone based continent the sand is crystal white

dazzling

it has created the best spearfishing country with south africa right up there as well

leaving the beach she drops to 45 feet for 3 miles then comes up to the five fathom bank,,

which has large limestone outcrops coming to with 3 feet of the surface

these outcrops run parralel to the coast for 800 miles

on one side of them is 40 to 45 feet of water

the ocean side of the bank has a cliff face which drops to 90 feet

the five fathom bank is about a mile wide and full of these outcrops with massive caves full of fish

or you can work the cliff face and get into the caves that way

we use aircompressors and hose gear and carry down two guns each with a surface line we hang the shot fish to, we will then take the mouthpiece and fill the fish full of air and they float to the surface

very few do this spearfishing here and the ground is virgin

the fish have no fear

an amazing sport jam

Hey those little buggers sound cute. But if they need to be managed, so be it. Regulated management by hunting would be my choice. Go hunting, pay some lisence fees, the government could make monry off this, at least enough to pay the rangers to watch over them. I'd pay to bag some of them little quokkas.

tryp

you cant shoot the little buggers

when they see you they hop right up to you and sit holding there hands out for some bread

and your saying youd shoot them

if you did youd have to take a step back to make room to get the gun up...

if you were serious,,,

about an hour north are all the 7ft 250pounders youd ever want to shoot,,

and with the 7 footers if you walk up to them they will kick the shit out of you...

or about 2 hours south we have all the wild swine you could ever want,,,

these oinkers get to 400 pounds and they will have a go,,

ive been treed half a dozen times by the filthy big porkers

Yeah I probably couldn't shoot one of the little shits if it came up to be like that. I have heard about 'roo hunting though, I though it was banned. Is this true or is there some way to get a license?

is roo hunting banned???

yes..

you must apply to the department of land and conservation for tags,,you can then sellthe roos to the pet meat companies..

no tag,,then you cant sell them..

but we have squillions of acres of crown land which is open for use to her majesties subjects,,,there is no control on it,,,and there in plague proportions,,

yes it is banned,,but not controlled,,, and unofficially encouraged

there restrictive

permits required

only bolt actions allowed

if you were serious in coming down tryp,,

ive got whatever youd want,,

from an M60 (but im short on link)

an AR15

223 ruger with laser sights

you could use my chinese SKS

ive got my national fabrique SLR that i fought with in africa,

but since your a canadian and your use to either raping or dealing death to grizz,,all youd need for roos are some good sized rocks or a pointy stick

How the hell did you get that kind of hardware in a place like that? probably gotta keep it quiet.

As of right now All my rifles are semis but that will change. I've got a norinco SKS as well, and a mini-14. But I guess the law says I can't take a Garand then eh?

I am serious about coming down but it will be a year or more. My parents are going down in the spring, my second cousin is getting married.

the M60, slr and sks i broke into parts and brought home in my kit from africa..

and no on the garand..

if your coming to the west,,id take it as an honour to show you around,,an evening spotlighting roos up north,,and a day down south to walk the swamp for pigs,,

and of course you cant miss the main event,,

shotgunning those damn ferocious koala bears out of the trees before they drop on your

head and tear your throat out,,followed by an afternoons terrifying hunt for the deadly quokka,,,another event not to be missed is the fertilizer bomb fishing in the swan river,,you could try and hunt the fearless man eating goats,,or the deadly estaurine platypus that drowns all who swim in its pond,,you could hunt the bonecrunching wombat as he hunts at dusk for sweet clover,,

theres all sorts of creatures just waiting down here to be slaughtered by you
