copper chloride solution
Hey all you talented scientists, heres a question for you that I don't know the answer to:
I just made some copper chloride in a solution. I made it by electrolysing a solution of NaCl with copper wiring, how would I go about seperating that and obtaining the pure powder I could use to make blue fire?
PS: on another note, what cool shit can i do with copper sulphate? i made it an accident trying to make copper chloride with peroxide and hydrochloric, however the acid was mislabeled and i got copper sulphate, a nice blue solution, instead.

Re: copper chloride solution
Are you saying your trying to Make solid CuCl2?
<Stupid Idea, I was stupidly defending>
Also you could try to evaporate off the water, but I'm not sure on how well it would work

Re: copper chloride solution
You really are a Random Fool. Your electrochemical suggestions won't work at all.
Grilmo, you've chosen a suboptimal method. You quite likely have a mixture of hydrated copper compounds, rather than just CuCl2 and NaCl in solution. If you evaporate it all down, you may be able to extract any CuCl2 present with absolute alcohol or methanol, since NaCl is only very slightly soluble in those solvents while CuCl2 exhibits good solubility. I don't know if it will be a good enough separation to use for making blue fire; the color may still be off.
If you want pure copper (II) chloride, buy basic copper (II) carbonate from a ceramics supplier, react that with HCl, and evaporate down. Or mix H2O2 and HCl, dissolve copper metal in that, and again evaporate down.

Re: copper chloride solution
WOW! Less than 1% what a complete waste of time.
Like previously stated, dissolve said Cu metal in conc. HCl and evap to yield your CuCl2

Re: copper chloride solution
random your method is bullshit! throwing numbers around is not going to change that fact. k? (readings my ass, tell me what analysis method did you use?)
Just evaporate your blue solution and heat to dryness to get your copper solution out, copper oxide/chloride/sulphate all work to color flames. Stay away from electrolysis methods, they are a waste of power. Acid and peroxide and Gray's carbonate method are the best to use.
How did you get sulphuric acid mixed up with HCl? Are you sure?

Re: copper chloride solution
<Just me making an ass of myself nothing special, sorry about wasting time and space on the thought that CuCl2 would come out significantly through electrolysis, and that .001% really matters for homebrew shit>

The bottle is labeled Acide Muriatique, Muriatic Acid. It even says on the side "Contains Hydrochloric Acid", but it obviously isn't. I mean it's an old bottle I found in my basement and there are these wierd crystal things on it......but I should still sue them ...lol w/e.

Re: copper chloride solution
go to the store and buy a gallon, best 10 bux you'll ever spend. If they ask you are cleaning a concret pad so you can paint it, you have the gloves and goggles(they may ask), you know to dilute it, etc etc.
Even though you are doing perfectly acceptable things with it, if you say you are making such and such they will be suspicious. So just go with the flow.
