Default Fundamentally Challenged

Just a few fundemental questions that I think I know. But I just would like to be crystal clear. Maybe any questions by others could be thwarted by any of the answers as well.

1. What is the "A/B" reference?

2. Should the balloon get "dirty" during the rxn process?

3. Are you supposed to put acid on the balloon? (inside or out etc.)

4. If the color of the mixture has turned from the original dark tinted purple color, then dark red tinted then to a dark tinted gold/yellow color- Should this be expected?

5. If the mix has been taken off heat long enough, could you take the balloon off for whatever reason and then put back on before you return to heat?

OK...the balloon does get dirty on the inside due to the fumes which it contains during the rxn. I don't mean filthy....just some colored moisture is what I would describe it as.

Acid should NEVER be poured onto or into the balloon.*shaking head*

The color change should occur at the end of the rxn...when the rp inside sort of falls out, or sinks. This will be more noticible after you add your dh2o to the vessel.

The balloon shouldn't be taken off until you're pull is complete, but it's been said that a quick off and on type of thing is ok. Say to add a pinch of this, or that. You can take it off the heat and continue at a later time....which is done by a few. But I'd leave the balloon alone until you're done.

Oh yeah....I'd like to hear some of the others definition of the a/b, or what it refers to. Switrd's read it in regards to "e" extractions.
