A friend of mine got I from tincture using Hydrogen Peroxide and HCL. He got his RP from matches. Cleaned both fairly well but not as much as suggested on totse. he used a 40 40 10 - EIR ratio. When he adds everything in flask he is getting no reaction.. He needs help.

First problem is understanding the rule of clean enough.

Then, you need to look into the mechanism of rp as a reactant, not just a facilitator or recycler of iodine. You need to undrstand the background information as well as the step 1, step 2 info. I'll briefly tell you anyway. You used a .25 ratio of rp, which is probably enough if using a very high quality substance. You are not using a very high quality substance. Even if a seasoned professional, using many secret tricks, cleaned mbrp, the actual content of rp in the resulting fine powder would be considerably lower than 100%. Unused rp is easily recoverable from post rxn mix. Can you see where this is going?
