just a qustion on red phos. ratios

in the davydavy post - lavalamp punch balloon method k-man suggests 1:1 ratio red phos:eph

now is this red phos he is talking about stuff SCRAPED from matchbooks without it being cleaned. ie. content - glass powder antimony sulfide rp etc. rp content about 40-50% of this dirty rp mass?

so therefore the old .3:1 ratio rp:eph is for the cleaned stuff, refined stuff?

ratios then work out equally .. kinda?

pretty basic question on something that has been on my mind .. cus theres no way that much discrepiency between ratios could exist!

RP is the one ingredient that doesn't matter how much you put in there (as long as you don't turn your reaction into pottery.) as long as you have enough.

I think the reaction requires less than 1/3rd gram per gram of pseudo, but it is a general rule to put too much because of the huge variables involved (those things you mentioned). You do want to get your rp as clean as possible so that you don't introduce a lot of garbage capable of reacting with any of the constituents. The glass and clay are pretty much ok, they are't going anywhere and probably won't react at all.

So, too much, in this respect is a good thing. What it doesn't use, the reaction will give back to you.

Swim's heard anywhere from a third to a half if the RP is very clean, but swim doesn't trust swim, so swim uses a 1 to 1 ratio, and recycles the leftover stuff.
