im trying to explain to friends another way to turn meth base to a salt without gassing or the use of muriatic acid,,,friends freebase meth is a solid not an oil and there having a bugger of a time getting it into a salt---anyone care to have a stab at some ideas

Meth HCl or SO4 is not a salt.

I would beg to differ, Sparkel. Methamphetamine is usually in the form of the hydrochloric salt(hence: Meth HCl), or the Freebase form which is an oil. It can come in other forms, such as the less common Meth Sulphate. However, I believe the only "useable" form to be the HCl salt(comments or clarification regarding this statement are appreciated, this is just what SWIL believes he remembers throughout his adventures!)
As for Kirb: I can't really understand what is trying to be done. The freebase oil has dried to a crystaline-like structure? It needs to be changed to the HCl salt without gassing? Can titration be used or is the point to sidestep HCl altogether? Why? Maybe a little clarification can get this moving for SWIK...

what would you use besides muriatic to bond the base to HCl?

HCl is not a metal nor is amphetamine freebase. Salts are substances composed of both a non-metal and a metal.

in the birch,,sometimes a bit of pillgaak carrys through the A/B and is squirted into the ammonia with the eph,,,after the ammonia has evaporated,,the contents are filtered,,,there is a white soapy substance left in the filter,,,,,this is dried, then washed with dnh2o, which leaves a chalky looking crystaline powder which is not soluble in dnh2o but is soluble in methanol(this substance is not psychoactive),,,,when friends put this chalky substance into hexane and gas it(it is now psychoactive),,,,they then disolve it in methanol and crystalize,,, normally crystal disolves in water very quickly,,but this crystal wont,,,so how do friends turn it into a salt without gassing it

OSS meth HCl is a salt, it is the result of an acid reacting with a base. There is no definition I know that states that a salt is composed of a metal and non-metal. By that definition a Grignard is a salt?????
I sure hope I never see the day when meth users and amateur chemists start writing the rules of chemistry.

Hmm, I hate to break it to you OS SPARKLE. But amines can and are reffered to by their respective salts. IE: amine.HBr / amine.HCl / amine.SO4 (and so on and so forth)
Take some organic chemistry and you would know this.
Please stop citing your 1st year inorganic chem rules.

Re: base to salt
Kirby, this is just a shot in the dark, but there is a way to gas without the traditional pumping of vapors into a liquid.
Collecting the gas in a storage matrix may be an answer to the problem. You would use 100% isopropyl (extra measures used to get and keep it dry.) Weigh the iso, chill it, and pump the dried gas into the flask of alcohol. It readly absorbs a lot of hcl gas and you will have the gas in the form of a liquid. Make sure you make it heavy so that your concentration outweighs the solubility of the alcohol.
If you need help with the details, shoot me an email. It is easily found at, I believe Rhodium's site and there is a thread on it at the hive. It's a rare bird, this one. Fantastic results though. Long storage life. Drop, drop, drop, stir, done. What you will find is the principle. You have to use your noodle to do it ghetto style, but it is quite easy and produces some potent acid. The likes of which you wouldn't expect from hcl.
Tryp, dumbasses like us (not you. Myself and tweakers who think too much) who sit around trying to figure things out unscientifically is why everything about this reaction is so fucked up in the first place. If it wasn't so cluttered with misinformation, women and children would be doing it. Hmmmmm...I guess it's not fucked up enough, then.
Oh yeah, I forgot. Lukky is absolutely right. Any drug capable of forming a salt is so converted by pharmaceutical companies, all of them. If they didn't have to in order to make them work most effectively, they wouldn't. You can evap the NP and smoke the freebase oil if you want to. It is some nasty shit, and you won't be able to hit it enough to find out if you can get high or not.

Re: base to salt
Gotta most of the regulars here aren't dumbasses, not you or whoever, it's guys that quote from their elementary chem texts and try and tell the regulars that they are using the wrong terms for well known concepts.
Good suggestion about using HCl dissolved in IPA. I've always just thought of that as an uneccisary extra strp that can be avoided. But it is a good suggestion if one can't use hydrochloric acid or hydrogen chloride gass.
Kirby, what special circumstances require the use of some thing other than aqueous or gaseous acid? You still want to make the HCl salt right?

Re: base to salt
Nevermind I just read the original post again.
you can still gas this solid freebase, you need to dissolve it in dry xylene or toluene and then you gas it. Really there is something wrong with the freebase though so don't expect much. It should dissolve in the toluene anything that doesn't isn't freebase and should be filtered out before gassing.
good luck

Re: base to salt
I would agree with Tryp here, any FB oil that has hardened is probably filled with many impurities or very old, or both.
Dissolve in the NP of choice. Give it an aqueous layer to help attract the polar soluble impurities, then seperate. Now continue with water washing the NP, and then either titrate or gas with HCl.
Don't skip the extra water washes, as SWIL is guessing that the hardened FB is pretty dirty.
