two problems
When swim was trying the i2 extraction in "here it is all three steps" he used 8 oz povidone iodine 10% 125 ml dh2o 10 ml sulfuric acid "aquarium ph down" and 8 oz 3%peroxide. After 4 hours what remained was a jar of jelly.
Now the question is what went wrong should he use some muriatic acid or is povidone the wrong stuff or both?

Re: two problems
That method of extraction will not work with pov. iodine.
SWIU needs the little 1 oz. 2 % bottles or the 7% jugs available from a feedstore.

Re: two problems
I've never used HCl, i've always used H2SO4.

ACS Grade is preffered over Muriatic or Drain Cleaner for HCl and H2SO4 respectively.
Though when in a pinch Muriatic will suffice.
Just be sure you muriatic is clear/colorless, and if using H2SO4 a little yellow is acceptable. But remember, ACS grade acids are clear colorless.

Re: two problems
i found a mixture that works perfectly, its very small scale but u just scale it up and it works perfectly......
50ml 2.5% tinc. 12.5ml 31%HCL(aq), 25ml H2O2
then add 100mls DH2O. (a little less water recomended and perhaps a little more H2O2)
scale up as needed, this has high yeilds..... excellent result...

Re: two problems
If the povidone containing Iodine solution is all you have readily available. Resublimation via coldfinger is a route you might consider.
