KMnO4 Solution
I have a question about the Potassium Permanganate solution used in the synthesis of methcathinone.
In one synth I read (Methcathinone faq 2.2), it says use 1g of KMnO4 and concentrate in about 15.45mL dH2O, it further dilutes this solution in 250mL dH2O and then 3g of Pseudo dissolved in 150mL of dH2O is added.
In Poopeen's synth he also says 1g KMnO4 for 3g Pseudo but then, if I'm not mistaken he only adds 15mL of dH2O to the solution and that's it.
Does anyone know the actual measurements required to synth good methcathinone?????
The 1st synth seems like an over abundance of water and just very difficult evaporating all that water, and the 2nd synth sounds like it doesn't use enough water. A friend of mine tried the poopeen synth with a little more water but the product turned out to be ?%*!.
If anyone knows, a reply woud be greatly appreciated. would hate to over oxidize or waste good pin-wheels on synthing benzaldehyde.
Thanks

Yo! Anyone there. I can't believe no one knows the answer to my dilemma. Please, someone come through for me and save the day.

Re: KMnO4 Solution
OK, guess not. I suppose a 3:1 ratio couldn't hurt. And so the journey continues.....

Re: KMnO4 Solution
i was wondering the same thing. Is temp and dilution really as important as i have been led to believe

Re: KMnO4 Solution
The amount of water present only effect the rate of any reaction, When the quantity of chemicals doesn't change. eg. 3g is 3g whether its diluted to 3g/L or 3g/Quart.

Re: KMnO4 Solution
The amount of water is not important, it still oxidizes the same. I add more water to it when i add the lye.

Re: KMnO4 Solution
Thanks poopeen, so your saying 15mL of dH2O is all I need to dilute the KMnO4 solution for the reaction, right? I was just worried about over oxidizing the pseudo, if that's possible? I don't know I'm just a newbie, just trying to take precautions before I proceed. I am learning this stuff little by little, thanks to you all I believe I'll get there one of these days.

Re: KMnO4 Solution
You could add more water than that, like two or three as much. .....
