Perhaps you just don't have the knowledge required to help this person other than passing him off to some other site.

Re: ether
I'm going to go easy due to you being new and out of respect for Pharm. [Ok so I don't quite know how that is, it just is.
I'm going to point you to TOTSE's forum, called 'Lab Tips.
In it they discuss all sorts of things like what you ask.
Not only am I going to point you in the right direction, I'm going to magically send you and your post there!
WOW!

Re: ether
As was mentioned previously, starting fluid does contain ether.
Well it conatins Diethyl Ether and a small amount of Heptane as a lubricant for the engine.
Depending on what it is you are going to use it for, the amount of heptane present is nominal.
Just spray the contents into a suitable container and seal it, since ether will readily evaporate.
Be sure it is a screw on cap or something suitable enough to contain the vapor pressure of ether.

Re: ether
Just to clear up the stunning misconceptions pertaining to starting fluid.
It contains more than a little hexane and heptane. It is more like 50/50 ether/hexane by volume. And there are also light oils in the mix to lubricate the engine. The hexane/heptane is NON a lubricant! It is a combustible easy lighting fuel.
Now I don't know where the water extraction method of purifying starting fluid came from but it is pure and utter BULLSHIT! It doesn't work! When you use this method you are actually loosing some ether into the water and are keeping all of the oils and hexane in your ether. So in essence you are concentrating the bad shit and throwing away the good stuff, you'd be better off huffing it straight from the can.
There is no way to get pure ether from starting fluid that doesn't require some equipment and knowledge!

trypt. just wonderin back in the day alot of the synths goin around called for ether to pull your meth oil.i remember alot of them called for washing your ether to remove ucl(light lube oil)i remember bein inexperienced back then thinking if oil and water dont mix then why the fuck are we doin this.however wood you recomend dryin starting fluid if that wood be someones choice to pull oil?

Exactly, but unfortunatly, both the oils, heptane, and Diethyl Ether are NON-POLAR and thus as Tryptamine suggested isolation of the ether cannot be done by simple solvent seperation.
Most likely what you would need to do is distillation, which wouldn't be that hard since the BP of diethylether is much lower than any of the other additives. Hell you could even do it at room temperature if you have a vacuum which pulls enough torr....

Re: ether
3852. Ethyl Ether.
1,1'-Oxybisethane; ethoxyethane; ether; diethyl ether; ethyl oxide; diethyl oxide; sulfuric ether; anesthetic ether. C4H10O; mol wt 74.12. C 64.82%, H 13.60%, O
21.58%. C2H5OC2H5. Produced on a large scale by dehydration of ethanol or by hydration of ethylene, both processes being carried out in the presence of sulfuric
acid. Review of mfg processes: Himmler in Ullmann's Encyklopdie der Technischen Chemie, vol. 5 (1954) pp 777-782; D. E. Keeley in Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of
Chemical Technology vol. 9 (Wiley-Interscience, New York, 3rd ed., 1980) pp 381-393.
Mobile, very volatile, highly flammable liq. Explosive! Vapor heavier than air. Characteristic, sweetish, pungent odor, more agreeable than chloroform. Burning
taste. Tends to form explosive peroxides under the influence of air and light, esp when evaporation to dryness is attempted. Peroxides may be removed from ether by
shaking with 5% aq ferrous sulfate soln. Addition of naphthols, polyphenols, aromatic amines, and aminophenols has been proposed for the stabilization of ethyl ether.

dry conditions ether can generate enough static electricity to start a fire. Surface tension at 20 deg: 17.06 dynes/cm. Viscosity at 20 deg: 0.2448 cp. Heat of vaporization at

Soly in water increased by HCl. Sol in concd hydrochloric acid. May explode when brought in contact with anhydr nitric acid. Miscible with lower aliphatic alcohols,
benzene, chloroform, petr ether, other fat solvents, many oils. Azeotrope with water (1.3%), bp 34.2 deg.
Caution: Potential symptoms of overexposure are dizziness; drowsiness; headache, excitedness and narcosis; nausea, vomiting; irritation of eyes, upper
respiratory system and skin. See NIOSH Pocket Guide to Chemical Hazards (DHHS/NIOSH 90-117, 1990) p 112.
USE: Solvent for waxes, fats, oils, perfumes, alkaloids, gums. Excellent solvent for nitrocellulose when mixed with alc. Important reagent in organic syntheses,
esp in Grignard and Wurtz type reactions. Easily removable extractant of active principles (hormones, etc.) from plant and animal tissues. In the manuf of gun
powder. As primer for gasoline engines.
THERAP CAT: Anesthetic (inhalation).
THERAP CAT (VET): Anesthetic (inhalation). Has been used orally in colic, subcutaneously as a stimulant.

This my-excuse asking about the ether is a noob. He would better himself by searching the many other threads based on the same topic

Re: ether
Hey godsmack i am not going to be so hard on you and i will help you the best of my ability man forgive most of the people on this forum i guess they forgot what it is like to be a beginner. Now letz start off with why you need the diethyl ether? Then if it is for extracting or cleaning pills such it can be used straight from the can also the anhydrous meth method most people use ether to cool their lithuim strips then gas the ether/freebase off.I will help but first before i start advising you on the ether solution i need to know what you plan to use the ether for post and swim will reply thanks =)

tired, MnM & the meth god are respected members of other places and have proven themselves in there fields of interest. i would suggest that you tread lightly here. i agree research should be done before asking questions but on the other hand maybe research should be done before flaming as well. it could save one some future ummmmm headaches, for lack of a better word. believe what SWIM is tellin you, my brother from another mother ...lol
