phosphoric acid safety
coolguy32 said he had a dream where he planned on using phosphoric acid in place of rp in his rxn. he was concerned about safety since the acid will react quickly with the e and I2. What is the safest way to avoid a potential problem when dreaming of this method? He searched it but is interested in more info. to be as safe as possible. He will be reasearching for at least another month before his dream takes place.

Re: phosphoric acid safety
Choose the material of the container very carefully, Phosphoric acid is Extremely Corrisive. Also fumes may be a problem, find a MSDS sheet for it, much useful information can be found on them.

Re: phosphoric acid safety
Phosphoric acid is fairly safe, read the ingredients on a bottle of pop.
Mixing phosphoric acid with iodine will be a total waste, no reduction will take place.
You can make HI by distilling phosphoric and an iodiDE
Fuck HI, HYPO owns

Re: phosphoric acid safety
Like sleepy says, phosphoric can't be used directly as a reducing acid. The second part is also true. You can use it to make the required acid, but it is a bit hazardous and a working knowledge of intermediate lab technique is needed. Phosphorous acid as high purity flakes will work directly. Find some and send them to me and I'll tell you how to do it.

Re: phosphoric acid safety
Hypophosphorus acid, I believe, is another alternative to RP. Check rhodium.
