Powdered Iodine
SWIM's friend had a dream that there was a powdered iodine that one could use when making iodine crystals instead of using "tincture". SWIM personally has never heard of such a thing but SWIM thought he had better ask before SWIM's friend makes a mess.

Re: Powdered Iodine
lol do you have powdered iodine?
you could probably get a several different kinds of powdered iodine, just depends,
if you are dreaming then I don't doubt that you have powdered iodine.

Re: Powdered Iodine
The powder is light brown in color and kinda has small shiny crystals in it. SWIM's friend threw some of the powdered stuff into a jar and added some peroxide and to his suprise it looked like it was making crystals. It even smelled like iodine in the jar. So if its not the right stuff, wonder what SWIM's friend has?

Re: Powdered Iodine
Actually....froggy, switrd's runner was told by the owner of the "feed and saddle" selling store near his house that Iodine was also available in a powder. He explained that in order to purchase it, information about the store selling and the person buying would have to be given. Not to mention that it was more costly. But said that it was definately there for the purchasing, delivery being next day. Switrd advised not bother buying it.

Re: Powdered Iodine
Thanks for the response Tired. Does anyone know the ratios that you need to make iodine crystals with the powdered iodine?

Re: Powdered Iodine
Hey, you're welcome. Now, the ratios I do not know. I've honestly never actually seen the stuff. Switrd's sure the man in the store wasn't making that shit up. When he mentioned the giving of info....he left. The ratios for the Iodine that switrd's buddy uses can be found there ------> rhodium.ws/chemistry/iodine.tincture

Re: Powdered Iodine
This is a iodide salt, most likely sodium iodide. This is a component of tincture and is the reason you add acid and peroxide to tincture to liberate the extra little bit of iodine. It is a really good source of iodine if you can get it in quantity and cheaply.

Re: Powdered Iodine
Thanks tryptamine for the answer. Guess SWIM's buddy ran across something useful for once but we are still unsure of the ratios to make the crystals. SWIM has made crystals from tincture many times before but is clueless to this powdered kind. Any thoughts?
