vacum filtration.
Okay got a really huge chem lab supply catalog col Parmer I think. Anyway they carry chemicals and such and tons of equipment. Anyway my question is about vacum filtration to remove meth from solution. I am scared to burn it and evaporation just takes so long to remove meth. So would a vacum filter pull it out or does it have to be gassed first. Thanks much
Sorry Came back to edit I forgot something.
I understand being careful with the lab supplies and being red flagged. So here is how I can get around that. The company I work for is where I got the catalog and they have a legitimate account with the lab supply. Work will allow me to use their account so its no big deal. Probably the only thing I will buying is there lab grade I2 crystals. They are selling it for $90 for 100 grams so I think it is worth it for me just to go that route. I have already made I2 crystals from instructions on this site but I think this worth the cost just to buy it outright.

Re: vacum filtration.
i dont know who you are,,or what your job is---but to buy from most lab supply companies they like you to have an account with them unless your a "through the front door cash customer"--and then they have a chance to view you and see who and what you are---you buy a vacumn filtration unit and they may red flag you---just a word for you to be wary thats all---good luck

Re: vacum filtration.
An ebay account through a good friend is a better, as well as a much cheaper, idea. Get your friends approval and credit card number (thats why it has to be a good friend). Then, set up the account with a password and screen name using YOUR FRIEND'S email, or even one of those free ones. That's it. Use the account and have everything sent to his/her address. Have yourself a good story for your friend in case of the remote chance that the DEA is having a very, very slow week and decides to harrass ebayers.hahahaha
Of coures, anyone who ponders filtering the meth out of solution, may be a cop. One thing for sure, your chemistry knowledge is dangerously lacking.
If you are serious about educating yourself in this field, please make sure you read a whole lot, I mean months worth, before you ever try ANYTHING.
This isn't meant as an insult. It is a sincere effort to help you live longer.

Re: vacum filtration.
im curious as to why you dont already know this,,but anyway,,,turn the hotplate up,,,turn a heater fan on it,,,and it wont take as long,,,,and the little bit you use isnt worth crying over,,,if it is,,,then do bigger cooks

Re: vacum filtration.
Thanks for the replies, and gottago no insult taken and yes I have a lot to learn no arguement there but Im certainly no fuckin cop. The whole reason I asked was because on Rhodium I have seen mention of useing vacum filtration.
Kirby thank you as well, and yes I knew about hotplate and fan that is how I finished off my cat.
Treepdog sorry I was not more clear. I was only asking because I have seen where some guys are gassing there honey to titrate the crystals out. Maybe Ive misunderstood though. Others I see are merely optimizing the ph and then evaporating till crystals form. Yes I dont know shit but I am curious so Im trying to learn. I wanna know as much as possible before anymore attempts so thanks for the answers.

Re: vacum filtration.
hey jerk-- (just had to do that)
According to froggy, cops don't have time for us pee ons.
Wanted to clarify the two methodsof salting the meth that you describe.
1. you can titrate it by adding the acid with some water (it can be calculated pretty closely) to the freebase in non polar then shaken like hell, settled and water drained off and evapped. Then onward.
2. I don't know if gassing would be considered titrating or not, but yeah, you bubble hcl gas (it must be dry as does your nonpolar/freebase solution) through it to precipitate the meth hcl salt. It would probably be more accurately stated as a precipitation procedure.

Re: vacum filtration.
I thought titration was adding an amount of something to isolate a peculiar element out of a solution a/or .....from a compound.
I thought..... muriatic and aluminum made only hydrogen gas,
as adding a metal to hydrochloric this muriatic (solutioun compound) seperated
from reaction of hydrocgen chloride to alum, =hydrogen gas, and chloride/aluminum.
but yall talkin bout salt and soda so I am confused as hell about precipitation.

Re: vacum filtration.
titrate,,,to measure the volume or concentration of a solution by titration------------titration,,,,,,an operation in which a measured amount of one solution is added to a known quantity of another solution until the reaction between the two is complete. If the concentration of one solution is known, that of the other can be calculated,,,,,,,jerky, most of the people have there meth in a liquid after reduction and then gas it with hcl gas which forms the meth into a solid which precipitates it out of the liquid, some mix suplhuric acid with salt to make the gas,,some mix hydrochloric acid with sulphuric acid to form the same gas, some mix sulphuric with aluminium foil, some have a way with muriatic acid,,but very few mix acid with the liquid(holding the meth) as i think its far to easy to ruin the product from adding to much acid--goodluck

Re: vacum filtration.
Frog, what the hell is your problem today? You have been up my ass since this morning. Are you just trying to find a contradiction or what? I may not be a chemist, but I know enough about the subjects in which I choose to respond to give a basic answer that is RELATIVE to the general topic of this forum. This is usually what the person is looking for. I try very hard not to go and grab the chemistry books off the shelf and sound like I'm some kind of bullshit chemistry prodigy.
Who said anything about hcl and aluminum? It's one of those misconceptions that just won't die no matter how many times you shoot it down.
Furthermore, if you will check the post, I said "you can titrate it by", I was not defining titration. I was trying to define an application that I assumed he may want to see more clearly. Perhaps I was wrong. Let him tell me.
The more I read your posts, the more you are beginning to look like one of those armchair chemists who study and ponder theory, but never actually observe first hand any of this shit taking place.
Understanding how something THEORETICALLY works, and knowing BY EXPERIENCE how it does work, are two very different things.
For the record, I respond to things that I have experienced in one way or another first hand. I would never intentionally lead anyone here astray. I give my word of honor on this statement, and where I come from your reputation depends on your word.
One more thing. Is the conversion of a freebase to a hydrochloride not commonly referred to as "salting out"? I thought so. I like some of the things you think up, but back the fuck up! alright?

Re: vacum filtration.
It sounds like you need to learn alot more about what you are doing before you go any further. Throwing money at the problem is not going to help especially when you have no idea what kind of equipment you even need to buy.
Yes of course you need to turn the meth freebase into meth hcl, whether you do this by gassing or in solution is one factor. I'm guessing that you usually fo it in solution and have to evaporate. In this case a rotavap would be of use yet prohibitably expensive. On the other hand vacuum filtration just speeds up what you could do with regular filtration. And you don't need a bunch of wxpensive equipment to do a vacuum filtration. A filter flask, a buchner and paper, a vacuum source(aspirator please you don't need a hivac) and a chunk of hose.

Re: vacum filtration.
Swirh was wondering bout the vacuum filtering... will any cheap brand do like a economical Dirrrt Deevil or would one have to purchase a higher end model...say such as a <snicker--no offense man> Kirby?? And damn... that would explain the problems Swirh had with all that duct tape and all... Ya gotta laugh at the little things...Peace all
Hell...Swirh is in such a amused mood...A heh heh heh heh...he said "Feel-tration" <Beavis>...Hope everyone is having a good nite...

Re: vacum filtration.
Gotta to answer yes you were correct. I asked for help and knowledge you gave so thanks much for the clarification. I have learned who its safe to trust here and you are one of them among a very few. You are always to the point and no bullshit lies, as well being a man of your word is commendable. Not trying to kiss your ass or anyone elses but honor is something people just dont seem to have anymore.
Kirby- Thanks much for your help as well, you seem knowledgeable as well.
Moderator- The info you gave about the filtration was needed and that was the route I was looking at. I intended to use the buchner and paper.Yes the rotovap is pricey-the cheapest I had seen was close to 2000. Im young and single with good pay so I could afford one but really it would not be of significant use to justify the price for me, hence why I merely wanted vacum filter. Constructive criticism is appreciated and yes I intend to learn further before doing anything. I have been checking for good organic chemistry books at local colleges cause I read so damn much and this I just dont understand.

Re: vacum filtration.
You're right, honor doesn't mean much to very many anymore. Pity.
Horse, dude you sound like you must have gotten ahold of some horse. A couple of jerks (oops, I mean punks) have been giving me the shit today, so yeah, I am finally having a good day. Thanks.
Jerky boy--
Organic chem books are great if you want to brush up on your general knowledge and broaden your base, but to get alot of very specific information on this subject, go to the hive (just read don't post. They can be quite brutal.) and use their search engine. Big library. Chemhead's back up, but I'm sorry to say I haven't made it back over yet. Don't know why really. May be personal, family stuff. Anyway, they have always been good for well written posts by knowledgable people, many of which writtin story format instead of a boring procedure. This will give you more visual depth and understanding.
You can make almost everything you will need if you are even halfway good with a dremel.
I've invented more shit than I can think of right now,and one may help you with your evaps. It's very ghetto, but it works. I'll try to get through this fast.
Old coffee maker from thrift store.
lay sideways with opening facing you and top to your right.
cut hole in top to accommodate small fan. It doesn't have to move a lot of air.
The old left side, which is now your top needs to be covered.
rheostat on fan.
If you have a variac or variable power supply, open up old bottom and remove thermostar from coffee maker and control temp more evenly with variac.
Now, when you turn on the coffee maker and the fan, the warm air blows around in the semi closed space you have created. If you put your plates or other in this space, it will safely evap and give you your crystals a whole lot faster. The whole thing minus variac is about 10 bucks. Variacs at ebay for $20-$50 (and more), as well as vacuum pumps and water pumps (for aspirator) cheap.

Re: vacum filtration.
i would advise not even using the word meth at all in any form. you are worried about several key issues that may or not be red flagged blah blah blah are genuine concerns yet you blatantly say that its for meth in a public forum. hell call it the shit or what ever at least leave your self plausible deniability. like i said in another thread, i seen a t-shirt once that said: just cause your paranoid doesnt mean they arent out to get ya. think about it. also saying you can go thru work to get it is not wise. that info makes it fairly easy for any L.E. to set up a sting operation. especially since theres no vaid reason to tell us that as it doesnt change any of the answers to your questions so is not required info. keep everything to yourself that you can. make it a habit and stick to it. words of advice that can turn into words of wisdom faster than you can say: "when do i get my phone call officer"

Re: vacum filtration.
a simple hand held hand operated vaccum pump, the kind sold at auto parts stores as brake bleeding kits (around 20 bucks) a few pvc fittings, a flask, a buchner funnel and some ingenuity, voila a cheap effeciant ghetto filter flask setup. the vaccuum the hand pump generates i am assured is more than enough to do the job. just a thought

Re: vacum filtration.
THEY SAY, when using vacuum pump aspirators, vapor from solvents other then Hydrogem Dioxide are corrosive and dont make well for longevity. Some dude in Berkeley had hella sweet-sauce V-Pumps (used) for $70-$100. New he said they ranged from $500-$2000.
A quality VP is very beneficial for setting variable pressures for what ever kind of reaction or whatever.
And these are THE tools if you know anthing that could use a good BJ. (Wait, why exactly are they called blow jobs when there really aint no blowin goin on?

A "TRUE TWEEKER" might make use of a natural water aspirator, where gravity is employed Sucka.

Re: vacum filtration.
Corrosive gasses don't hurt aspirator pumps at all and they don't use gracvity either O.S., they use the Bernouli(Venturi) effect. And while they are good for some distillation or filtration they cannot provide good enough vacuum to vac distill ketone.

Re: vacum filtration.
If you are simply hobby grade with vacuum primarily used to enhance filtration and siphoning tasks, then an aspirator using the five gallon bucket thing at rhodiums is more than adequate.
A pump from an old above ground swimming pool will work for this purpose. Someone in your neighborhood is bound to have one all fucked up in their backyard. A little sweet talk and the pump will be yours.
I'm glad tryp identified that it is Bernoulli's law, venturi effect, cause I call it the "water suckin past an open hole" effect. It just doesn't have the same ring to it.
Ebay has dozens of vacuum pumps that use small electric motors to run them. They work extremely well for the applications I stated above.
When it comes to vacuum distillation, I can't say.
