anyone know of a way to get I2 crystals from tincture, without heat,. or with very little. chemical extrac prefered if one exists... thx..

there was a supper easy one on CH a while ago before it went down for a while. it was somthing like....

ADD 1 pint of 7% tincture

3 pints of Hydrogen Peroxide

1/2 cup of d-h20

1/4 or 1/8 cup of Muriatic (which one? I dont remember... anyone?)

anyhow add all these together in an empty gallon milk jug (fclean of course) and shake it up. let it sit for 30 minutes and then come back and pour it all through some pantyhose to catch the I2. there will be a bunch on the bottom of the jug too, so add some more d-h20, swirl it up and pour through the panyhose. now that you have all your I2 in the panty hose you can slowly pour about a gallon of d-h20 through it to clean the crystals. by the end of the gallon of water it should be comeing out clear. then squeeze it reall hard to get out any excess water and put in a container of damprid for 3 days to dry. hope this helped

I didn't write this up, but I have watched it done several times, works perfectly, adjust, ratio's as needed for smaller amounts.

Iodine Extraction:

Use per liter of 7% tinc 25 ml HCl (37%) (not critical, use some, use enough, a little more will not hurt.) add 500 ml water, add with stirring, one liter 3% H2O2

Or since you are american, a pint of tinc, a pint of peroxide, a cup of water and a shot glass of acid. Stir well, let it sit. Let it sit. Give it four hours at least.

Decant the fluid into another jar and rinse out the crystals in the bottom of the first jar real well, 5-6 times with lots of swirling. I filter through a piece of bedsheet and get all the crystals in there and mash real well, dry good, transfer to fresh coffee filters, put in a jar that has epsoms salts (dried) in the bottom, put a folder paper towel in, the sit the crystals on top. Try to dry the crystals as best you can to start..but come back and change the coffee filters after about four hours, the next day, etc...after two changes, the I2 is generally dry. If you react them still wet, use 1.5 gm instead of 1.2 and decrease the water in the reaction by 20%.

Leave the solution in the second jar, add about another 125 ml of peroxide and let sit until the next day. You will get another batch of crystals, up to 25% as much as before, usally about 10%.

Works fine. On a good batch you can get up to 50 gm of I2 from a pint. Usually you will get 43-46 gms. A lot better than the one ounce I used to get with three bottles of peroxide

jesus christ man this is annoying. we do this topic at least twice a week. ive said it 100 times and im saying it again... the method sam posted is the latest method. it has however been improved upon a bit more. let the 1st setting set 12 hours NOT 4. SWIM gets 44 to 48 grams of dry I2 crystals this way. usually 35 to 40 grams 1st pull and 5 to 10 grams 2nd pull. and the annoying part is not cuz the question is asked over and over but no one ever seems to mention it.

acidmelt just about covered it .swim has done it numerous times without having to wait 12 hrs .with a little practice u can have it down pat .even neat & clean enuff to do indoors with a little extra care.swim found that using 1 pt. 7% 3 pt.h202 5/8 cp.dh20 3/8cp. muriatic gets me back 45 -50 gms. crystals per pt. of tinc. do as acidmelt said as far as the time sitting and rinsing good.swim use a large mouthed pickle jar to pour it through usin 2 knee high hoses ( 25 Cents at w/m ) roll one up and stretch over opening of jar then push down a few inches.repeat with second right over top of first one.pour off then pick up first one and ring out over second one to catch the ones that come thru. if doing more than one pint ring each one out over same hose.when done extracting tie knot right over ball of crystals and squeeze out all water easilly with a bench vice,works wonders , gloves are a must if you are going to be around any one . i then put in freezer with some sort of absorsbsgyyyv s
