Thanks for reading guys/gals
Just wanted to ask about the lavalamp punchballon method....
I'm ready to start my reaction however i wanted to clear a few questions....
for my setup...should i leave the lavalamp in a cool setting...say in a aircondition room or is room temp fine?
Also, do these ratios sound good?? 4.2 eph 6.4 I2, 3.2 rp, and about 6 to 7 ml of dh2o.??? Water sounds like a lot however, the reaction time is long...what do you guys think???? I dont want the pot to run dry...know what i mean.
what I will do is add the dh2o then 3.2 rp then the 6.4 I2......turn on the bulb (40 watt hallogen unlike the dinky 20 watt) wait until it dilutes and add the 4.2 eph. and secure my punchballon on the top.
After 5 or 6 days......a/b extraction and TAAAAADDDDDDDAAAAAA LAb Grade shiiiiiiiiiiiiiit....UMMMMMMMMM
SOUNDS GOOD????????????
Any critisism is good.
Thanks PEEPS,
DD

Swim thinks you should use a little more rp, probably at least as much as pseudo. Swim thinks room temperature should be fine.

absolutely not. you dont need nearly that much RP. if you use as much rp as E the reaction will go off way to fast. if your precurser are clean and your doing a small batch (3 grams you said?) then use 50% of the E ratio. especially since you are doing such a long cook. good luck, have fun, and stay safe

Thanks Acid
never thought about it reacting so much quicker...forgive the newbie.lol
this will be my first reduction attempt
I was interested more in a 72-100 hour reaction...how does one tell if it is completely done...by knowing your ratios and wattage of your bulb??????
I was thinking perhaps a 4.5 Eph to 3.5 rp to 6.6 I2, not to mention a total of 7-8ml of dh2o. More h2o means longer duration of cook and not drying my shit out right???? I was hoping that these ratios would bring me down to about 3-4 days total. However still uncertain.
Thanks for your reply....hope you can clear me up before i burn my TREASURE. LOL

As long as it's wet, and not too hot, it shouldn't ever burn up.
After 72 hours of just about any heat over 40 c, that reaction should be mostly done. The viscosity will get more oily, and the droplets of fluid on the glass start to bead differently. The RP will start to fall out of the reaction fluid quite easily, and most of the Iodine coloring should have dissapated. The fluid should be about clear, to a light yellow color. The RP should no longer look bright red, but rather a dull maroon again.
There is a peculiar smell...

wouldnt that be considered room temperature then? i mean, room temperature is the word that we use to tell the relative temperature of a room. if it is air conditioned, however, is it not still room temperature?!...and you call yourself a scientist...BAH!

The bright light will slow the reduction down by degrading the hydriodic acid into hydrogen and iodine, to avoid this unwanted reaction use a candle or lighter to coat the bottom of rxn vessel with black soot. Black absorbs heat so the light is blocked and heat is absorbed.
With the ratios you mentioned [great-ratios!] it should look like clear babyoil with rp resting at the bottom gently refluxing.
Keep cold drafts away from your hot limeglass or it could brake

Thanks for your input guys/gals
swivey will make sure no cold drafts encounter the bottle. And thanks so much about informing him about the black coating to absorb heat and not light (Neversleepy)
swivey have already started his reaction and it looks great however swivey was wondering about the punchballon....should swivey expect the ballon to increase a lot in volume or not(swiveys is quite small) ???????????????
This is swiveys first reduction and it sure smells but not as bad as swivey thought...swivey have 2dogs and 3cats and they smell a shit load worse than that.LOL
Thanks Everyone for the knowledge you've bestowed upon Swivey

Re: LavaLamp Punchballon method
The balloon will expand to a certain point and stay there for the few days you reflux. Once you start noticeing a "sweet but nasty" smell near the balloon [10-20hours] that means you did good and are at the halfway point.
If the balloon is limp after 5hours, let rxn cool to room temp, apply balloon while holding a little air in it, heat again. The balloon is your condenser so keep it upright!
If you use hypophosphorus acid it only takes around 4hours

Re: LavaLamp Punchballon method
Limp balloon?
Were your 3 precursers as dry as the Mojave Dessert?
They should be.
Did you add too much Dh2o, thereby flooding the RXN?
I pour a 20oz. bottle-cap of Dh2o per oz. of E (under AM's advisement). I also pour the Dh2o holding the lamp at an angle and let it run down the side and slowly work into the mix.
(Most likely solution)
Were you using "raw" RP or MBRP?
Its CRITICAL that your RP be cleaned and refined to suitable grade, and with a little research and practice MBRP can be made quite suitable.
My balloon swells fully erect (no pun intended) within a minute of putting it on the hose ('bout a foot) without any heat.
Its not hard to do.
I can't fathom these ~LONG~ RXN times...3 days?
I'm done in 4 hours...local favorite, CANT hang on to the shit to save my life...Yeah I'm bragging, but that's shouldn't bother you , cause I'm on your team.

Theres no such thing as too much water when you use the correct amount of iodine/rp which dave did.

a little short of water to be put into an ounce of ephedrine and it not be hellatiously
dry still. I think you might even burn some if this was the case.

Re: LavaLamp Punchballon method
Thanks for the constructive critizisms...it helps me think of different approaches.
However, I'd rather run the pot decently water healthy and wait awhile for the production....rather than risking a burnt pot. That seems worse than waiting an extra day or so.
Im confident that my precursers are clean and very dry. Ill wait and see though...who knows, I am newbie so I do expect to fumble on a few procedures...wow...what if it comes out reeeaaaallly good...getting excited!!! lol
when i apply a/b extraction....what do you guys use. I want to use toulene but I heard ether is better...what do you guys suggest ???
Thanks again guys,

Re: LavaLamp Punchballon method
Neversleepy,
As a general rule, espeacially when providing input for a newb, I try to keep what I say factual, and I don't criticize the suggestions of others, because all kinds of variables and factors influence what works for each individual, and most often, as well as most importantly, I haven't tried "thier" way, therefore I can't criticize it.
The ratio of Dh2o to 1oz. of E, even the specifying of a "20oz. Coke bottle lid" (He's from up North so he actually said "pop bottle") Was given to me directly by Acid Melt. I know he doesn't know everything, but his reputation does precede him,and that's the only reason I brought his name into this. Incidentally, he considers the Rxn done in less than half the time I do. So should we not listen to him as well?
I'm anxious for your reply.
P.S.
I know the wet towel is fire-safety protocol, but what does that have to do with anything I said? The amount of moisture in my Rxn?
Please clear that up for me.
Thanks.

Why not tree? I don't know.
Why not if you do happen to flood the rxn with too much water, try boiling the water out of the procursers till your flalask starts fuming Hydriodic acid?
Does Hydriodic become visible when it starts fuming/smoking?

Sleepy, and all the other "pros",
You tell people listening to me will produce bullshit.
However, when I mention that Acid Melt suggested and utilizes that "too dry" water ratio and that he considers completion achieved in less than half the time of my "too short" synth...You aint got shit to say.
All of the sudden, NOBODY'S got shit to say. I know AM doesn't know everything, but he does have a name for himself...Is he wrong too?
I eagerly await your reply.
Why would I need a wet towel for my Rxn?
You ever heard of your shit spontaniously catching on fire while your cooking it?
That's absurd even if the shits bone dry, but you wouldn't know because your assertion that this particular synth produces "bunk shit" shows that iether: A. you've never even tried it. or B. You didn't know what the fuck you were doing and fucked it up.
So...
Using the specifics you contest...
Does AM make bunk shit?
Or is he "fuckin' magic"?

Re: LavaLamp Punchballon method
Damn, I never read this thread. What is this, the twelfth or something?
Anyway, shooter, my vote is for magician. It is indeed magic. That's the only explaination for reducing (pseudo)ephedrine to meth in less than four hours using rp.
If you consider the reaction mechanism when using red phos as the recycler, it is a slow process. There are several going on at the same time, but the role that the red plays is quite slow. The extra heat may speed things up a bit, but as it has been said time and time again, it also contributes greatly to side reactions unrelated to the desired reaction.
And yes, this is first hand knowledge when it is said that it does not complete in four hours or less no matter what the ratios of reactants and heat. Magical incantations are the only way to fully reduce using that little water and that short of time.
Although it may be true that Swigotta simply fucked it up 8 times, it is doubtful. Instead, I think there are people who enjoy the side reacted products. It clicked for me recently when Acidmelt said that he didn't like the long wet reflux dope because it was too smooth, no rush. The short, hot certainly does produce that zippy, euphoric buzz that he describes. The only thing I am arguing here (and AM doesn't think he is above someone thinking he's wrong every once in a while) is that the end product does not contain 100% meth (not meant to represent an analytical result, but a practical one). I believe it's not even close. It probably does, however have a very high content of iodo compounds. It certainly has various side reacted products from the near flask fire temp(which is what sleepy is probably referring the towel to) at which it is heated. That definitely has something to do with it. The shit that Swigotta thought he burned (and which I demanded to be run just like it was ok) was absolutely wacked. That shit had some folks runnin around like crazy people. It also made some fairly decent looking crystals. It definitely wasn't methamphetamine.
Maybe it's simply a matter of preference. Swigotta just doesn't like for his heart to pound out of his chest and his teeth ground down to the gums. He also does like eating, sleeping, and being able to take a piss in less than half an hour. All of these are pretty common with the shorter, hotter cooks.
I'll have to admit the euphoric rush was a hell of a lot better. Perhaps a mixture of 30% fast and 70% slow..............hmmmmmmm.

Re: LavaLamp Punchballon method
Tuckered,
I don't post as often as neversleepy, who under most circumstances, gives great advice...But I am the person that started lava lamp Rxns, and as for being accused of giving bad advice:
*Read my reply to that accusation
*Do a little research on who Acid Melt is
*Notice that I am still waiting for a response.
Swiss rarely gets less than "text book" results with his lava lamp method using a ratio of .3 RP to 1 part E and I2 and 1 20oz. bottle cap "full" of Dh2O for every 25 grams or so, and reacting for 4 hours.
I have found 2 factors to be crucial to a "complete" success.
*Very clean, quality RP
*Very dry I2 crystals (from 7% tincture)
This post assumes you know the details to achieve the above criteria.
Swiss' best visual confirmation of completion is the translucentcy of the Rxn fluid.
A little more Dh2O doesn't hurt and contrary to what you'd think, can actually speed up the Rxn, but I like the results produced by the parameters described above.
*Naturally, success depends also on the endless details involved with the extraction of the E and other precurser variations.
But it can and does produce the KILLA'.
Good luck.
Shooter...(who still awaits a response from sleepy and company)

Re: LavaLamp Punchballon method
That's ok shooter. You can choose to ignore that which you cannot debate. I'm not even in sleepy and company and I'll tell all newbees that four hours on a lightbulb with 3-4mls. of water to 28g. of pseudo won't "complete, finish, fully reduce" the pseudo to meth. I don't give a fuck how clean the rp and iodine are. Shit, resublimed iodine is clean iodine. period. Even if some impurities made it through the hundred or so "baths" that rp undergoes, it would be so small an amount by then that it wouldn't be significant. It still doesn't produce meth. Go ahead and make all the crank you can using this method. Not the lavalamp, but hotter than hell and dry as the Sahara. That's the bullshit part. I like acidmelt. I think he's a great guy, but I do not agree that meth is produced this way. I'm not even sure that he says it does.
Whatever. Shooter, at least tell these new dudes that the end product is MUCH different than that which is produced using the long, wet reflux method. Let them have the chance to try it both ways. I'm sure there are a few out there who like that sketchy shit.
Once Swigotta came up with real meth, everything else became crank. It's hard to know what you're missing if you never had it in the first place.
Every newbee deserves at least that much.
P.S.--
Shooter, c'mon. Do you really think you're the first one to tell about using a lava lamp in a reaction?

Re: LavaLamp Punchballon method
Wow...there's some vicious controversy over what is what. Is it really meth or is it like what gotta explains? I think that it is impossible to say what is, and what is not....because of the fact that most of the people that make it...DO IT! So that leaves us with simply the descriptions of the individual. As we've all seen the age diffrences here. We all see things a little different. We all experience things in different ways...some tweek constructively, some tweek worthlessly, others spend the day paranoid peeking out the blinds. So with that in mind lets agree to disagree on the subject.
PS..If we take a drug test, we would all be positive for the shit...half ass meth or not.
But PLEASE don't get me wrong!! The newbies should listen to the ones who know what they're talking about. Bad things can happen if you start doing things the wrong way. The ones arguing this point have many years of experience so just....oh get back to researching.

I'm sure it looks like I'm some gripy bitch on the rag (please ladies, don't take offense. You know how you feel at certain times during that week.) but my mind is notorious for beating that horse(oh shit, not you too, horse) until its nothing but a greasy spot on the ground. My grandmother (recently got her ticket home) used to tell me that I'd argue that the sky was green and the grass was blue (actually at certain times and in certain situations........)
I just read this thread (below) again today while I was archiving some old stuff. It was the first time I had the opportunity to read the last few posts.
Anyone who knows who jamiroquai is knows that he can come up with some pretty wierd shit in his posts. Well, his posts in this thread are brilliant. It gives me a whole new perspective on things. I only hope I can let the hot and fast/slow and gentle thing rest (ask the ladies which one they prefer and they will probably give the same response. Split down the middle (no pun intended). Half like it hot and quick (well, not too quick) and the rest like it slow and gentle.
Here's the thread. Go down to the bottom.

Re: LavaLamp Punchballon method
It is quite possible that I have misrepresented my position on the lava lamp. When I first read the thread (check it out, that rhymes) with the lava lamp, I found it to be an interesting prospect. I believe I even mentioned the positive aspects of having a safe heat source and something portable and easy to just slip in the closet. It may have been sleepy that actually wrote about this first, but nevertheless the lavalamp reaction outline has been written and note tables laid out for minute by minute detailed descriptive observations. If Swigotta farts during the reaction he better write down the pitch, key, duration, Hz. wave length, and what it smelled like. (I don't know what the smell would have to offer, but that's what he gets for adding a variable to the reaction.)
If it comes out good, decent, or ok, I will tell everyone about it. If it sucks ass, I will just keep it to myself.

Now now, Gotta... This is not fitting behavior that Swirh has come to know/expect...That is one of the things that Swirh really apprec8's bout your postings--The honest, real deal, tell it like it is no matter what persona...
Swirh can't speak for everyone--only himself but humbly requests that Swigotta reports his findings...GOOD, BAD, or UGLY.
It is quite helpful to Swirh when he sees a report on something that went awry and then, what do you know; he runs into the very same situation not even a breath later (well maybe several breaths)...
Hell, besides; Swirh doesn't really think Swigotta would without a bad report anyhow just seeing what peeps would say (where in the world did that odd little word come from anyway...Swirh says it reminds him of the ole "Chickenhead" days...peep peep peep...Anyhow, he is quite strange and is easily amused) Peace all...

Re: LavaLamp Punchballon method
Just in case it was legitimate curiousity, "peeps" comes from the word people. So when the homeys say "my peeps" they are talking about their people, their homeys, their bruthas and sistas.
I hear what you're sayin about reporting the good, bad or ugly. Sometimes I get the feeling that I'm the only one who says, "Hmmm, I wonder if this motherfucker is full of shit or not. OK, give me a pen. Let's get this show on the road!"
Then a few hours later I have to hear all the I told you so's and why do you keep doin this. You know, I really think I would be better off doin this by myself. That is, as long as I had the place we have now.
I guess it's not too hard to figure out that Swigotta has the cool secret babe lair (fucking idiot really calls it that. There hasn't been any babes other than the wives down there since..........since......since someone else owned the place. He's not exactly a babe magnet.)
OK, staying with the topic, it has been recently observed that a lava lamp's base (this one anyway) will hold a yoo hoo bottle just perfectly. I would love to run some tests on bulb size, wattage and such but I broke my last accurate thermometer a couple of months ago and never replaced it.
Tell ya what. I'll get some candy thermometer readings and let you guys know. Most of the people here probably use one of those anyway. Yeah, mine's great. Of course water boils different where I live. Right at 200F.

Re: LavaLamp Punchballon method
Have been reading here and at the hive for several weeks now, trying to decipher and filter through the unecessary yakkin...compare others' ideas...find what works best for me as there sure is alot of debate going on. I'm not saying there shouldn't be discrepencies from one's method to another's, the absence of debates would indicate that no-one knows. But why does there seem to be so much personal attack bullshit, wasted unconstructive chatter...some should go back to AOhell type chat rooms....folks like Kman who only seem to chyme in when they have the opportunity to be a dumbass. Others who spend more time at the keyboard bitchin at people to reasearch, than would have been spent HELPING!!?? Strange, I thought this site was here to unite like minds and aid in developing same......"like my mother used to say, ranna ranna ranna, god dammit you little mother fucker, if you aint got nothing nice to say, don't say nothin!" lol Personnally I'm just tired of paying someone else for 'wonder meth'...wonder what's in it... Can't we all just..... Then there's the links to descriptive threads to actually attempt to help (two in this thread..) that only produce 'Error, can't find' messages, not real helpful...research, research, research...would be ok if it wasn't for 90% bullshit to wade through..SIGH... Shooter you actually sound like you're doing and not just talking, so please, any help you can give..... OK all the other pro flamers, you can start bitchin on someone new now (holding bullseye on chest) I'm still looking at extd. E not sure of which way to go next..... Thanks to all who are truly here to help and not just here for self-serving righteous BS

Re: LavaLamp Punchballon method
Well, ya little tucker you. Thats whats called payin your dues I guess. I bitch and gripe at shooter all the time, but I consider him a colleague and a cyber friend (as opposed to a cyber acquaintance.)
I suppose I'm one of those:
"Others who spend more time at the keyboard bitchin at people to reasearch, than would have been spent HELPING!!?? "
Sorry about that. The hive sounds like just the place for you. Placebo once (or twice or every day) said that if it were up to him he would ban the ip's of every person who didn't post the facts, just the facts. If that happened the hive would be no more.
You see, around here we do all get along. Heated debate is just that...heated. I give people shit when I just can't believe it is accurate information. That doesn't mean it isn't accurate, it just means I can't see it. Like most people, it ain't true until its proven to the eyes of the beholder.
Case in point. Recently, I told shooter about not doing any washes of post rxn fluid at any stage. Although he didn't tell me I was crazy and begin rolling through the half dozen or more reasons why I should (thats cause he's scared hahahaha), he certainly didn't believe that in the end it would be so clean that you could hold one of them up to the light and see right through them. It's true and I would suck........nah, I won't go there, but it helps me to see where someone else might be getting something I'm not undestanding. Thats what this is all aboutfinding out what works for you. What works for one may not work for another.
I enjoy a good debate. When you're pissed off and you know you are right, productivity goes through the roof. You are going to look high and low, until you find some data to support what you know works that will also convince your "opponent" of it's truth or let them see the perspective they are missing. I have learned more from the long heated debate threads than all the others combined. I have to wait till I get back to read AM's thread. Do you know how long it's been since he has felt the need to post something with a title like that? Maybe I'm wrong, but it's been a while.
Seriously, if you are interested in the no bullshit, cringe every time you accidentally say something humorous, ass so tight its like a diamond factory type forum, the hive is the place to bee. There is no doubt that their search engine is the absolute best database there is.
I like it here. I like kman too.
so, booyaa!

It's a wonder how you ever got the ephi. to stare at in the first place, "Oh, no! What shall I do? I just can't find my way ....all these unnecessary posts...oh, how shall I ever learn? <feigning distress like Scarlett O'Hara or some other little bitch> Ohhh. boohoohoo.
I wouldn't know that much about learning the basics here. I spend most of my time here trying to assist those who may benefit from the blunderous experiences I have already had the displeasure of having to learn from. These are plentiful and those willing to help are few. There are those who wish to give something back and those who say fuck em! Let them learn the hard way. You decide which one I am.
For you, I could care less. Fuck it! I hope you learn the hard way. (I'm sorry, poor little bag of E--yeah, you too PEGgy. Ya'll have fun now, ya hear.

Well...this last statement shows that you somewhat respect Gotta on some levels and not on others...As per you asking for his input...this is an open forum and whenever you post something, it is implied that you are wanting input on the matter; unless of course you start a thread with the person's screen name in the topic! Swirh is gonna go out a limb here and say that he would like the input from a wide array of sources but the preferable ones would be from knowledgeable person(s) with a good grasp of the process being queried about...
Tucker...don't know ya but you seem to be the kind (least from your performance thus far) that would come to a person's house and come in without welcome, help yourself to the fridge without asking (including the beer, grrrr), take a shit in the toilet and clog it up and not unclog or inform anyone, screw the O.L., and anything else that is not proper etiquette for a visitor...

--------------------------------------------
My grandmother (recently got her ticket home) used to tell me that I'd argue that the sky was green and the grass was blue (actually at certain times and in certain situations........)
--------------------------------------------
gottagogo .. your were right! .. technically everything you see is the opposite to what the colour appears to be. I mean something that is red is EVERY SINGLE COLOUR other than RED .. red is reflected hence we see red.
this is totally irrelevant to the topic at hand so i will ask a question !
In curbshots method of the soupcan job he says put damp sand into the can being heated.
Would it be a good idea to place damp sand in the lava lamp before reduction. I mean, it would block out the harmful light aswell?
Just place a reaction vessel into the sand and away you go?
Im thinking of getting a really powerful globe for a lamp put it in and then attaching a dimmer switch to the lead. Then running tests with a thermometer.
Results of temperature could then be recorded according to dimmer switch location.
Just a few thoughts
(PS i dunno how you quote a message but the first part was posted by gottagogo a bit further up)
(PS its not important) HAH

Huh...point taken there Sucker...Swirh did misinterpret your post as a debate over some quotes from Gotta interjected with some smartass comments of yours...Swirh's bad...
Which brings him to his next observation. Swirh doesn't keep up with every word that Gotta says...He could give a shit one way or the other bout Gotta flaming somebody or giving a piece of his mind time to time---but you Sucker see very engrossed into documenting his words to a disturbing degree...(perhaps some repressed homoerotic tendencies there--Swirh would watch it Gotta)
Personally, I'll not be wasting my time on this shit anymore, I actually have a life...I recommend it for the rest of you,
But this statement here conflicts with the whole approach that you are taking...So...practice what you preach and get a freaking life if posting a lot disturbs you...Don't waste your precious time reading any more drivel or moronic posts nor responding back to them...<shrugs shoulders and extends middle finger> Swirh cares not about ya nor your opinions (however skewed or perverted they may be)...
The ball is in your court now there Tucker...put up or shut up...go get a life or keep "ranna ranna ranna" off at the mouth (since we are quoting people)... Swirh for one will not respond to your BS anymore...You are not worth the time anymore...

Re: LavaLamp Punchballon method
Mother tucker--
Why don't you track down the person at gottagogo@aol and tell me what you find out. Better yet, when you get an address (cause you're so smart) come on over and knock on the door. I'm not too smart when it comes to security, so I'm sure you can find me easily, narc.
Oh yeah, you'll have to post your findings cause its the only way I will ever know that you actually did anything.
harle--
The sand probably isn't a good idea for this for two reasons
1. using such a small amount of sand would make it prone to dry out more often necessitating frequent rewettings.
2. The sand may cause excessive heat buildup which can burn the bulb out.
Flat black high temp barbecue paint will do the trick if you don't want to do the soot idea.
As far as temps go, a 60W bulb will only raise the temp of 50mls. of water to 140F, and thats at a distance of 1/2 inch from the bulb. 100W bulb is in progress, but looks like 180F max, just over 80C, barely within range. A 40W is a waste of time IMO. A dimmer switch may be good using a reflective backed recessed lighting bulb of 150W. The dimmer will prevent the bulb from exceeding its working temp. Good idea.
Horse, wicked--
Thanks, I hope I can return the favor. Wait till he finds out that tetra extracted ephi still needs more work. I am going to post the preliminaries on the bulb cylinder tests (lava lamp is too limiting) and the finals (which will take a while) but I am unsure if I want to keep doing this or not.
Stay safe.

Re: LavaLamp Punchballon method
Gotta (and everyone else og course...)
From the time I had a descent grasp of what was going on and "how it was done" from my mentor, and espeacially after I had begun researching (places like here) so I could "truly" learn "how it was done", I wanted to experiment with longer synths. I always expressed to my mentor, who produced quality shit, with a very ellaborate and troublesome P/P type system in about 1 and a half hours, that I wanted to at least try a long synth. I never could get them to, and after I "graduated", I somehow (somehow's ass! I was ready to get high!)let the long one evade me synth after synth after synth. until finally and fairly recently...I finally prepared the "Long and Wet one", and went from 4 hours (max) to well over 48 hours.
It was a success. Everything went well, the criteria of the guidelines were met, the yield was good and the product was very good.
In fact, it was almost, but not quite, as good as the product produced with the four hour way. The four hour way did seem to have a bit more initial stump grinding torque, however I can't say that for certain, but I can certainly say they produced results that made demand for them "unfucking-imaginable".
There was one distinction however that made synth A more desirable than synth B...
Synth B took 2 FUCKING DAYS FOR CHRIST'S SAKE! And like I said the shit was A-1 and although Shooter is Deffinatly gonna' "walk down there and fuck 'em all" he'd rather have his killa' in 4 hours.
As hard as this may be for a dignified man such as yourself to accept, and as strong as your bond and trust that he would never do anything to undermine all the hardwork you both put into your work...But I feel Swiggota may be so strongly steeped in "his" beliefs, that each time you dare attempt to "cross the lines" that are so deeply carved in his mind, that rather than cause conflict with his beloved lifetime colleague, he's purposely "throwing monkey wrenches into your works" while your distracted concentrating on some task that you're hoping will be the key that's gonna' finally make it work this time, he's decided he's tired of arguing
with you about it anymore. Sabotage...and if it comes down to ear biting... he won't hesitate.
"But hey..........He is a BIG FUCKER.

Re: LavaLamp Punchballon method
Wow, shooter. I have no idea what you just said, but it reminded me of another Adam Sandler movie, Billy Madison, where he's in the contest with..........nevermind.
You're right, I had forgotten about the oily sand thing. Tuckhead's unusually obsessive interest in gogo's identity had me a bit perturbed and a little distracted. Sand, for all practical purposes, just isn't all that desirable a medium for heat transfer.
Recently I have been thinking about heat sources and testing some of them. The 100W lightbulb in a modified cylinder type base ended up producing a maximum of 85C. Good enough for the set it and forget it technique. My favorite heat source is the ghetto heating mantle made from the heating element from the warmer of a coffee maker, a small stainless steel mixing bowl and a small enameled sauce pan. Lined and insulated with various types of fiberglass and a very high quality ghetto heating mantle was born. Total cost was about 10 bucks. (not including variac)
As far as the sand goes, it really doesn't serve any significant purpose. Black high temp paint works beautifully as an insulator and a light block. That is, if blocking the light is really what you want to do.
Weren't there some theories tossed around a few years ago about the photoreactivity being a good thing? It's been a while, but it seems like Rhodium's curiosity was in favor of light as some form of enhancement to the reaction. I don't know.

Re: LavaLamp Punchballon method
as far as SWIM knows and according to beebo over at ch2 the light will cause freeradicals to form in the iodine solution. so photo energy should be kept to a minimum. ill say this one more time. beebo says to reconfigure the lamp base to take a standard base household buld and use a black light party bulb. here are a few of beebo`s posts about it.
a 60 watt black light party bulb..
does 100-120 deg. C and also limits the Photo Light energy into the reaction
photo energy can cause free radicals to form from the Iodine.
the screw in incandescant type is better because it will hold the black light bulb and also you can screw in different wattage bulbs to coarsly adjust the temperature...
Beeb reccomends the use of a wall switch dimmer to provide finer temperature adjustability...
Again the black light is to reduce the photo energy that is being introduce to the reaction, The Iodine is the reactant which has the potential to be suseptable to light.. Some folks believe that it's a non issue, but why add any unnecessary variables ?
thanks to beebo for the info

In retrospect...
Gotta,
I guess there's no way to know for sure if I came up with the Lava-lamp Method...but as far as I know, I did.
I know it doesn't make a shit to anyone other than me...I'd just like to be able to tell my grand-kids that Grampa Shooter made a significant contribution to "cookin' dope!
I also must say:
I still start off with one 20oz. bottle cap full of Dh20...but, this is only sufficient for the first 30-45 minutes. I then periodically add 50-75 units of Dh20, via a u-100 syringe, poking the same spot in the tubing each time, and taping it up afterwards. These periodic additions (added when walls seem to be drying a bit) also insure a good reflux.
I apologize for statements I made suggesting that 1 bottle cap full of water was sufficient for the entire Rxn. That is, I concede, "too dry".

Well give credit where it is due. It's a novel method and had I not of caught this, it might have been lost to the Matrix. Re: LavaLamp Punchballon method
it is indeed a good method as SWIM likes the constant on heating. SWIM dont know wht but the constant on-off cycling of a hot plate bugs the hell out of him. SWIM likes the heat to reach the desired celing and hold it there as a max andlike a heating mantle does. this method can satify the desires of the long wet refluxer or the short hot cooker. simply play with light bulb wattages or ideally place a rheostat inline and work it that way. the tall sloping sides of the lavalamp glass makes an excellent flask, is easily replaceable and very resistant to heat. have you ever grabbed a lava lamp when its been on an hour or more. damn hot ill tell ya. you cannot hold it in your hand. plus it just looks fuckin cool, a cross between the old hippy days and some mad scientist shit. chili bubbling in an ordinary lookin lava lamp the only giveaway that something is amiss is that tubing/condensor comming out of the top lol.

Re: LavaLamp Punchballon method
yes the lava lamp glass will work fine used in an oil bath. turn the hot plate on low low setting then place the lava lamp/flask in the oil bath and bring it to temp. slowly dont just fire up the oil bath to 190 and then stick the flask in. start low and bring it up to desired temp over 30 min er so and will work fine. dont buy the discount knock offs either buy a real lava lamp they will have a 40 watt halogen bulb instead of the cheap incandescant bulb.
