solvents
Hey, I'm extracting tonight, and in the interest of dumb q's, and simplicity, I got to wondering if there is a lumit to the amount of E that different solvents can have disolved into them? for example: Obviously 50ml of toluene won't disolve 1000 25mg pills, but where exactly where is that line betwene to much and too little. I don't want to be waisting e, but I'm shooting for the least amount of time for evaporation.
Any takers?
Thanx

Re: solvents
never used toluene to extract ephy from the pill mass--didnt think it was soluble in toluene before A/B---i use methanol--most people use alcohol of some form--anyway--minimum is about 600ml per oz for extracting--but dont stuff around here--wash pill mass at least 3 times--and a bit more is far better than not enough---its only another 5 mins evaporating in the end

Re: solvents
Hey, Thanx Again KIRBY.
You're a wealth of knowledge
Try this, I know it's dumb, but I was under the impression that all I realy had to do for extraction was let the pills soak, filter, and dry. Are you saying that I'm missing something in my method?

Re: solvents
yes you are---grind the pills to a fine dust with a coffee bean grinder---then a mineral turpentine soak for 12 hours--then the next washes depend on what pills you have--but for the sudafed 60mg pills--youd have 3 hot toluene washes--two cold acetone washes--then your extraction--then an A/B extraction

Re: solvents
Ok. So I got it right? Just wash the solvent/pill mixture repitedly.
More q's
Should I be using heated solvents for the washing, or is room temp cool?
And the wash is done with clean solvent, not the liquid left after filtering?

Re: solvents
look at www.rhodium.ws/ (http://www.rhodium.ws/) chemistry section----then go down to the ephedrine column and check out there cleaning methods
