Default Question for Everyone to Answer

hey y'all

as i've said before i'm a rookie here. the past few days "swib" has been considering business in a certain field. its been interesting to see all the posts -very interesting. ANYWAYS i thought of something very important to ask everyone:

Who here (or SWIM -whatever) actually got started cooking learning by someone actually SHOWING them IN PERSON vs. reading a bunch of posts and doing internet research, never having seen it done in front of their own eyes, then just saying "fuck it" and trying it yourself??

I think this will be interesting to everyone in this forum to know as well as myself. It seems if u try to do this stuff without being taught in person u could seriously fuck urself up. ALSO, how long has everyone (or SWIM again if i'm correctly using the term in context)been making glass?

Thanks!

These posts are like the people who type them

There are the good, the bad, and the ugly.

If you hang around long enough, you will see

how truth from fiction emerges. This forum has a wealth of info bustin at the seams. Don't expect it to be delivered in a few days

by no means. You may get so disillusioned w/the posts here or a miserable manic rxn that you will say screw the whole shibang!

I've been here seven months and learned from the best what an acid/base

extraction is, titrating, non-polar, oxidation, reduction, extraction of various

chemicals etc. Only wish I knew a fraction of what some of these guys know. It amazes me everyday at the knowledge these guys have.

Some are real sticklers for perfection, but that is what makes it all worth while. Sometimes you might feel like crawling in a hole after someone burns your ass, but you will survive. The humor on this forum can be overwhelming at times, sitting here by myself

laughing so hard it hurts! You will have failures, but keep on reading and asking questions and no telling what you might accomplish.

My mama taught me how to cook back in 74. If I remember it correctly it was scrambled eggs.

Ahhh, the memories.

Hmm... well...

Two of us spent 2-3 years in libraries and on the net learning. Then around 6-12 months aquiring equipment before we had our first dream.

In retrospect, 4 years prep work to dream of methcathinone was a bit excessive...

The most important thing to remember when learning to scramble eggs is NOT each exact step done by the person who taught you...

...it is knowing why and how an egg scrambles, and knowing the importance of first removing the shell!!!

I learned the bare-basics, from a girl no less. Bare-basics that produced damn good results, relative to the average "chefing".

But, from the very beginning, I KNEW there was much, much more to this craft than most people cared to learn or even realized. So I've been refining through research and hands on and taking it to a higher and higher level of...whatever word you want here!

No offense on the girl thing...I meant it humbly!(bare-ass basics!...but invaluable hands-on REAL experience laid a solid foundation for me to build what I've learned through research and a lot of reading.)
