Re: HgCl2
The abbreviation you posted stands for mercury and chlorine, so i'm guessing that it's mercuric dichloride. If you don't know what it is, what it's used for, or how to make it, why are you even thinking of fucking with it?

Re: HgCl2
Mercury chloride(HgCl2)is used in making amalgums such as the fillings in your teeth altho i think they quit using it for that not sure tho. here is some shit i found in some text files i have put away.
It can be made by the sublimation of
mercury sulfate and sodium chloride. This is NOT a recommended procedure
for the home lab.
An easier way is to dissolve the mercury in nitric acid, giving
Hg(NO3)2, then displacing the nitrate with clorine using a small
excess of concentrated HCl. The HgCl2/HCl/H2O solution is then
evaporated to dryness on a water bath. HgCl2 sublimes readily at
temperatures above 100 deg C, making it an excellant way to poison
yourself.
this is dangerous shit and i agree with kman if you dont know what it is what its used for or where to get it maybe you shouldnt fuck with it.

Re: HgCl2
Warning first:
Mercuric chloride is toxic as fuck. Do not ingest it and always wear gloves. It affects lymphocytes and can knacker the capsule in yer nephrons.
Info second:
Mercuric chloride is available as a photographic chemical. It is also used as a fungicide, but not so commonly.

Re: HgCl2
This is what you do:
Get some mercury thermometers(drug stores have them) break them carefully and put the mercury(1g per themometer) into a sealed vial.
Add some iodine crystals and shake until all you have is yellow powder and no mercury left.
There you just made HgI2 a little less soluble(which is a good thing) and way easier to make(trust me I've made HgCl2) and just as effective.
