for 150 grams of ephedrine/150 grams IC
and 150 RP with 300 ml water. how much muriatic
acid would i add in 25 ml (shoot glass)?
sick joke but i sure get responses quick LOL

Re: Okay I Did A Cook And Lost 4 Fingers
I just realized you said 300ml. water. I hope you cooked it for close to a week using that much water. No, you only used 150g. iodine. I don't know, maybe a 25ml. shot glass will be enough. Next time go 1.5 on that idine and 1.0 on that DH2O.
assuming a 50% return, so thats 75g., 10 drops conc hcl per gram, so 30 some odd % makes it 30 drops per gram and thats about 1 ml., so 1ml. muriatic per est. gram return or about 75mls.
Sorry you can't do it. All you have is a 25 ml shot glass. Thats a ripoff since a shot is 45mls.

Re: Okay I Did A Cook And Lost 4 Fingers
Sorry its so late, I've been busy. Since you haven't started the stew yet, I called Swigotta for advice. He said to be honest he has never gone past 120, but would think the ratios for 120 would be the same for 150.
It goes like this.
If you are interested in the long haul, then you want to make sure that your aqueous HI concentration stays maxed out so to speak. I'm sure there are those out there that will say to go ahead and use the iodine at 1.0 (all ratios are compared to pseudo or ephedrine at 1.0, so if I say iodine at 1.5 it means 1 and a half times the weight of the pseudo being used) but Swigotta believes in having too much rather than too little. The worst thing that too much iodine will do is make you take a little more time with the post rxn workup. Not enough may mean that your HI concentration is not high enough. This would put a real dent in the yield. Iodine is actually directly related to the amount of DH2O, so it depends greatly upon how you plan to perform the reduction when considering how much water to put in the reaction.
Think about this:
The short hot method insists on very little water. For 1-2 hours they use a couple of drops per gram of pseudo and blasting heat of 140-150C
The "I want it fast, but I'm scared" method goes with 0.4-0.5 ml. water per g. of pfed and barbecues for about 4-6 hours at around 120C
For the 12-24 hour crowd, 0.6-0.7mls. water per g. pfed at 100C
Can you see the pattern here? Generally speaking, when you reach 1.0 water per g. pfed you shouldn't have to go any higher.
He summarized by saying--
To advise in such a way that will allow the greatest degree of success when I do not know the individual and their techniques and level of experience, I would have to suggest this--
Ratios-
E=1.0
I=1.2-1.5 (lab grade crystals kept very dry at this large volume, 1.2 is fine)
rP=1.0 (if not mbrp, much lower can be used, but since unused rP is easily recoverable and abundant rP is favorable in this reaction, 1.0 is recommended)
DH2O=0.7 is ok for this size volume, but I still recommend 1.0 as long as 36+ hours is acceptable. For 24 or less, you'd be better off with 0.7
Temp=90C with 100C maximum.
If it was me, I'd go with 1.0:1.5:1.0 Pfed:I:rP and 1.0 DH2O at 85-90C with a allihn condenser running tap water, attached to a 1000ml rb flask on a heating mantle for as long as it takes which will probably be about 40-50 hours.
The end product will be smooth for the smoker and have legs long enough to keep you going as long as you want. Sleep and eat whenever, no problem.
OK, thats about all he had to say. I hope it will help you with your decision. Best of luck with the stew. Hope it come out tasting great.

2ml h20
.8g rp
1.6g i2
for each gram of pseudoephedrine hcl
[2moles of 57% HI to 1mole of pseudo]

Re: Okay I Did A Cook And Lost 4 Fingers
SWIL has always gone with a 1:1 ratio of water to phed. His cooks are longer, and his I2 tends to be from tincture, so it probably contains some excess moisture as well.
When titrating SWIL has found that 10 drops of 31% is too much for one gram of expected product. But it really doesn't matter, as excess HCl isn't going to hurt anything. At the end, it can be cleaned from the final goods quite easily with a dry Acetone Crash, and further processed with dual-solvent recrystalization. *Voila* No more HCl.

You come up with this shit every time, but it is too much water. No one uses this much water but you.
This is stoichiometric, true, but for the purposes of clandestine chemistry it is just too much.
So, anyone going this route, it is not a good idea. Besides, this is coming from a guy who gets 100% yields. Yeah, right.
